Ruger and ammo testing.

I’m thinking it’s the V block but I don’t have a sporter or classic kicking around to check. Only because the ad mentioned at cabelas is talking about dovetail and the barrel.

However looking on Rutgers website it says this “Cold hammer-forged barrel is locked into the receiver by a unique, two-screw, V-block system.”

The competition actions do have 2 action screws instead of the standard 1 a that I can show if wanted.

Hmm I never seen it before, but Google the competition. Would solve alot of issues with the 1 screw method. As you would get it pivoting. A problem my target lite had. Put it in a magpul and it it wouldn't free float.

The sporter is just a traditional 1022 and they like to sell the V block barrel retainer like its gold.

I have recently compared CCI and Federal against Elley Force 42gr Round Nose on my Wildcat 22lr. Elley did improve accuracy. Costly though.

Yeah the competition stuff tights up groups typically. I found that out with my bolt action. Cheap stuff is 3-4” groups at 100 yards and halfway decent stuff is 1-1.5” and if I pay top dollar my rifle will do sub 1”

I’m hoping this semi auto likes the federal automatch just like the last one or some cci sv.

Here are a few targets just for kicks.

The first one is 25 Yards 10 shot groups fairly rapid firing and the second target is 100 Yards 10 shot groups. These are shot with a 2-12 power scope typically set at 10 power with a hold over from the zero at 25 yards for the 100 yard shots. All shot with some older bulk Remington Thunderbolt. (Been sitting around for at least 4 years.) So I decided to just burn it up and make room for some federal automatch or CCI SV. When I get my hands on some more ammo types not just bulk stuff I plan to run a test at 50 yards and at 100 yards. (With a better scope.) to push the rifle hard.

I also had a magazine that was faulty. One came with the rifle and I ordered 2 extras but one of the three struggled with feeding rounds so it will be going back and getting replaced. I also want to pickup a couple more so I can load 50 rounds at a time.

25 Yard Target.

100 Yard Target.

These are by no means an accuracy test because my T1X will shoot groups like this with this ammo. Hopefully get my hands on some high end stuff soon.

Cheers,
B

My understanding is that they do a dual screw mount because the sporter doesn’t have a barrel band and this helps with free floating which promotes better accuracy. However both screws are on the bottom of the barrel/receiver where as the competition has 3 screws. Two underneath and one on top.

The barrels are also different in length, and diameter so they are going to act different. All depends what you’re chasing with the semi. I hope to get it to the range so I should be able to show some accuracy signs with it soon.

thanks for the details
Maybe the Sporter is also higheer price due to the walnut handle

tfs your results
re ammo, mid $ range can be good too, Eley Club shoots better in mine than S-K RM and only slightly better than S&B Cdn M

Looks like Ruger hit the mark on that rifle. Thanks for posting your targets, I would be very satisfied with that. I have a custom CZ452 that I got in the winter and am still trying to beat the 1/2” challenge. Mind you I have only shot a couple hundred rounds with it and have only tried a handful of ammo. Good to see you doing so well with a new gun and scope. Any gun can shoot straight though…most of the problem is the shooter.

Good group at 25. Better than the Target lite can do, or at least the last time I had it out. Guess I need to get some Eley force, as that what I used last time I shot the 100 yard challenge.

I have some automatch but not much.

Federal automatch in my Anschutz 64, at 50 yards did about 3/4" groups. Eley Sport 1/2"

I’ve had one before so I know the tricks already. Big one being tightening up the action screws. They come torqued to like 10 in lbs but it recommends 30-35.

Is the 1/2” challenged at 25, 50 or 100 yards?

CZ makes some nice guns a 457 is on my wish list after I purchase a few more scopes.

I’m very interested to see what this rifle does with better quality ammo however I know the cheap stuff will hunt perfect for me.

Yeah I’m gunna set this up for 25 and 50 for now until my next optic arrives. (On order right now) then I can really test it at 100 yards with quality stuff.

Automatch was on sale last week and kinda kicking myself I didn’t grab some.

50 yards. I seem to do pretty good but getting five five shot groups without blowing a shot seems to be past me. I use a 24x Hawke too. Like I said I need practice it should be easy as there are enough 452’s that have beat the challenge.

1/2" is 5, 5 shot groups at 50 yards but ALL shots must be under 1/2". I made it with the Annie but failed a technically, so not officially made it. But still proved it could. Using only Eley Sport.

3 shots in I had a flier, so I patched it, signed it and started over. Then shot 5, under 1/2" groups.

Ever getting the Anschutz's ( I got 2) the 1022 was gonna be setup for off hand shoots. As it is light. But then my Mossberg 144 LSA got retired as an apeture gun and such a great gun. I still wanted to use it. So that became my offhand gun and 1022 went back to unknown.

Figure before I retire it to steel plinking, I'd try to improve previous scores I used. I did notice that action screw was too long and caused it to rock in the stock.

It's literally the ammo for me. I noticed doing the 100 yard challenges randomally I'll get a round that will go off a inch. So just a gamble if that random is in that box of ammo or not.

Here is a photo I took today. You can see the two action screws.

Excellent pics.

Had my 10/22 Target Light, with Eley Sport that can give me 1/2" groups at 50 with my Anschutz. I avg 2.3" 100 Yard groups.
