ruger deerfield, any good?

Did somebody inadvertantly give me an excuse to show off my Rugers? I think so:

I'm not really in the market for a Deerfield. I just know they are often sought by those looking for a handy, fun bush gun.

My grandfather hunted with one for as long as I can remember. It took many deer. My cousin has it now, and took a nice black bear with it. I've fired it a few times, and I am in love with it lol. They are more accurate than what many would have you believe. Very compact and light. If I come upon a good deal on one, and some more disposable income, I would probably pounce on it.

I can't believe rugger can't turn a profit on them, everyone wants one. A few years ago I found one NIB in the US so I imported it. Cost about 700$ all told. Sold it a few years later fro about 800$....still not sure why ;-(

I also have trouble believing they can't turn a profit. Maybe they can, but are just up to their eyes in orders already for guns they are already tooled up to make.

Deerfield

Great little bush deer gun, light to carry. I made a base mount for a 40 mm red dot for mine and it will shoot 2" at 75 yards easy.
It's only down side is loading and unloading the tube mag.

I have wanted one for soooooooo long, but have never come across one. I believe the one I want is a 99/44. Please Dear God, let one come my way at a reasonable price asap. Amen.

And surprise, I just bought my second one. I have 1976 and 1982 production models. I can't wait to see the new one. I have only seen pictures but it looks in excellent condition. I am restocking my 1976 model.

Will post pictures of both when they are ready for the public.

Some of you guys are confusing the "deerstalker" tube mag version (made 61-85) with the newer rotary mag 99/44 "deerfield" made for a few years around 2006. Because of potential legal entanglements the original "deerstalker" was simply called the 44 Magnum Carbine after 1962.

Compare this later ad which no longer has a "deerstalker" name reference - http://www.buckhuntersblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/ruger-44-carbine.jpg
