Ruger Gunsite Scout - failure to eject

Mine's at the gunsmith's getting looked at, and some other work done to it. It looks like a quick fix (according to him).

Good luck with warranty. It took the repair centre in Quebec about 8 months to fix my brother's GSR and its safety issue. Ended up having to get a new rifle shipped up from Ruger. They even sent the rifle back after 2 months, without even looking at it. They claimed they "forgot"...

Mine was fixed in a week and it works great .

Who mentioned anything about indoors?
I wasnt being a #### about it, just friendly advice. Last thing you want is a AD or ND in the house.

Could it be mag lips incorrectly shaped causing following round to press up against the round being ejected?

Does it only happen when attempting to eject live rounds?
Yes, live rounds (just like in the pic)

If I cycle the bolt slowly to eject a live round, I can see and feel when the round will get stuck and when it will eject properly.

Your issue is having FTE on live rounds instead of FTE on spent brass so that does sound like youre in your house doesnt it?

Nope. Again, there was no mention of being in the house. Why couldn't I have cycled live rounds while out shooting? :kickInTheNuts:

I hope you were out shooting honestly, and just weirdly obsessed with how your rifle ejects live rounds. Not sitting in your den feeding it live rounds cycling the action violently.

I am having the same issue with my new GSR. I have not actually tried live rounds yet though, as I have not had time to go to the range. I have just been using snap caps. But it is doing it with all my magazines - the metal AI magazine that came with the rifle, the 2 ten rounder Ruger polymer mags and the 3-round Ruger polymer magazine.

Pazzo did you send it in to the warranty centre or just to a local gunsmith, and was the problem fixed

circlingvulture,

That "AI" mag that came with the GSR is not a real AI mag.. it's a POS knock off. And my rifle is in the shop now taking way too long by a SA that is giving me the willies. I should have back back "last week."

Pazzo:

Sorry to hear that. I was considering just skipping the warranty centre and coughing up some money to get it fixed locally in hope of getting the rifle back before the end of summer. Assuming it was a cheap fix. But after your experience maybe I will just send it away.

This is my fourth Ruger firearm, and the second one broken right out of the box. I am thinking now I should have kept my Savage Scout :)

Well I wouldn’t give up on it yet - take it to a local shop or fix it yourself. I believe all he did was de-burr some metal. The GSR is finished but I have three firearms at his shop and I’m not driving all the way out there just to pick up one of them. Wait a little while until I get mine back and I’ll let you know what he fixed..I should have it back last week or the week before, so it shouldn’t be long now.

I’m selling it btw. Bought a new .308 with 16" barrel that I’m importing from US ;)

Check for sharp edges at the rear of the action where the base of the rounds can hit as ejecting. Many new rifles need to have these edges slightly rounded as the sharp edge can "grab" a round and impede it enough to stop it from releasing.

Check the brass for marks as the marks may show you the issue.

Any update? Back from the shop yet?
I'm interested in this rifle and am curious about the outcome with yours.

I'll sell you mine! got it back yesterday - bolt fully polished. Tried cycling a round and BAM, extractor broke. LOL. Sent it back for warranty this AM with a guarantee that it will be "100% fixed" when I get it back. Either way I've already purchsed a rare/custom .308 from US and I'll be selling this one as soon as it comes back :)

Sorry to hear that Pazzo. With mine I have noticed that technique is a factor. This isn't my first bolt action. I have six others (Weatherby, Remington, Savage, Tikka), and have never had a problem with any of them. But with the Ruger, if I operate the bolt with my thumb and fingers, I get extraction problems. But if I cup the bolt handle with the palm of my hand and really slam it, it will usually work.

Funny enough, it was my gunsmith who broke it while he was cycling the action. Doesn't matter now as I'm posting it as soon as it comes back :)
