Ruger hawkeye mkii opinions

After one shot?

Actually yes.... As ridiculous as that may sound.... My first m77 was my scout and I was dissapointed when I inboxed it and the boot felt like a rusty gate latch..... Took it out to dial it in and after one shot the difference was night and day..... Similar experience with 7-08 all weather and .243 compact......

And yes Chuck, I know it sounds far fetched, but just relaying my experience...... And have no "scientific" info as to why it seems to happen...... Ymmv

Mine either...... I do find that the bolts are usually not smooth out of the box though, but after one shot they turn smooth as silk..... Not sure if that is a product of investment casting or not......

The bolt smoothness and fitment of the MKII's I find to be much better than the current Hawkeye's, including the GSR... which is why almost all my Ruger rifles are MKII's.

I have a hawkeye stainless/laminate in 270 and it is excellent. Well balanced, slim stock, very comfortable to handle and shoots great. I have brownings, tikkas and sakos and no its not as smooth as them but i find myself reaching for the hawkeye more often than the others.

$400 for a new barrel and $280 to have ot fit to shoot..
Not worth it for the Hawkeye, i dont think a $400-500 dollar stock is goin to lighten it up much more? iirc the ruger and ramline stocks weighed similiar.

What are you talking about? Just buy it and shoot it... if your bent on a light rifle then buy a light rifle... if you want a "solid-no-problems-shoots-when-you-need-it-to" rifle, that feels good in the hand and at shoulder, the get an M77.

Here is a mk2 stainless 30-06, once wore black plastic, Hoytcannon hooked me up with a nice piece of ultralight walnut. Thanks again!
Bedded, recrowned... Could only get the trigger to 4.5 lbs but is really nice as heavy as it is.
Big fan of Rugers as well. Prefer the lc6 trigger too.

Your welcome... that rig looks great!

I'm putting together a similar one in 7mm-08.
