Ruger Issues Recall on ALL Mark IV Pistols

I believe the lower on these is just considered a "part" as the firearm is the receiver/barrel portion. Hopefully that will mean you'll be able to ship directly to Ruger.

Sorry juancarlos, the lower part of a firearm is the restricted part NOT the barrel/slide assembly.

Most handguns yes. However on these guns the receiver (which houses the bolt) is part of the upper assembly and it is considered the firearm and has the serial number. There is no slide on a Ruger Mk IV.

There is ways to work through ITAR legally in this sort of situation. Ruger should be able to.

That's not going to happen.

With a service center in Canada do you honestly think they'll go through the hassle of making special arrangements for Canadian customers? Customs paperwork? Approvals? etc.

Lol, I agree it's not a likely scenario I was only stating that it is possible.

Here's a little more info regarding the recall.

Mark IV Recall:

Ruger recently discovered that all Mark IV™ pistols (including 22/45™ models) manufactured prior to June 1, 2017 have the potential to discharge unintentionally if the safety is not utilized correctly. In particular, if the trigger is pulled while the safety lever is midway between the “safe” and “fire” positions (that is, the safety is not fully engaged or fully disengaged), then the pistol may not fire when the trigger is pulled. However, if the trigger is released and the safety lever is then moved from the mid position to the “fire” position, the pistol may fire at that time.
Although only a small percentage of pistols appear to be affected and we are not aware of any injuries, Ruger is firmly committed to safety and would like to retrofit all potentially affected pistols with an updated safety mechanism.
Until your Mark IV™ pistol has been retrofitted or you verify that it is not subject to the recall, we strongly recommend that you not use your pistol.

How To Determine If Your Pistol Needs The Retrofit

find-serial.jpg

All Mark IV™ pistols produced prior to June 1, 2017 are potentially affected and therefore are being recalled. This includes Mark IV™ Target, Hunter, Competition, 22/45™, 22/45™ Lite and 22/45™ Tactical models. These models bear serial numbers beginning with “401” (2017 models) or “WBR” (2016 models).

Firearms NOT subject to the Recall

Newly manufactured Mark IV™ pistols will begin with serial number “500.” Thus, if you have a Mark IV™ or 22/45™ pistol with a serial number beginning with the number “5,” your pistol is not subject to the recall.

Firearms That Have Been Retrofitted Already

Mark IV™ and 22/45™ pistols retrofitted with the updated safety mechanism are easily identified by the letter “S” in the white safety dot that is visible when the safety is engaged.

You can visit Ruger’s website right here to enter your Mark IV™ serial number to determine if it is subject to the recall.

What I got, when submitted the form on the Ruger site:

Thank you for signing your pistol up for the Mark IV™ recall. Here is what you can expect.

Due to the controls on the export and import of firearms and related parts and components, the retrofit of your pistol will be handled by an authorized repair center in your country. There will be a delay before parts are available.
Once parts are available in your country, we will provide you with the repair center's contact information. You should reach out to the repair center and arrange to have your pistol retrofitted pursuant to the repair center's schedule and requirements.
The repair center will provide detailed instructions regarding how to prepare and ship your grip frame assembly. Please note that any aftermarket parts may not be returned. Therefore, you should remove any custom or aftermarket parts you may have installed on your grip frame. Additionally, you should remove your grip panels before shipping your grip frame assembly to the repair center, pursuant to the shipping instructions you receive from the repair center.
Once the repair center receives your recalled grip frame, they will ship you a new one with a free magazine as a thank-you for your patience and cooperation.
In the meantime, we strongly recommend that you do not use your Mark IV™ pistol until it has been retrofitted.
While we sincerely regret the need to issue this recall, our motto is, and has been for many years, "Arms Makers for Responsible Citizens®." We are firmly committed to safety and appreciate your patience while we arrange to have your firearm retrofitted

Awesome. Picking mine up in a day or two.

Meh, I'll use it at the range anyway, and when parts are available in 2019 I'll get it fixed up by whatever service center is around then.

I don't really use the safety at the range anyway. Load, and shoot. Empty. Reload, shoot. Repeat.

Ordered mine a few days before this was released. Will likely just do the same as you. I never used the safety on my mark 3 anyhow...

Also, I doubt it will be long before someone posts a video on youtube with a gunsmith fix. Might cost a bit but better than being down for 8 months waiting on warranty repairs. Handy thing is that I work with a gunsmith, so I'll just have him do it when the knowledge gets released. Unless its all new parts, then I'll just switch them.

FYI,

<Recap> I purchased my pistol in the states. Just before I got it imported into Canada the Recall came out.
The Import company (Irunguns) helped out and sent my pistol into Ruger for me.

Heres the update. It took 3 weeks for Ruger to get the Shipping box to IRG. Shipping pistols in the states has to be done priority so the movement on the pistol was quick. Ruger completed the warranty work in less then a week and shipped the pistol back to IRG.

So it seems the ruger warranty portion in the states is up and running smoothly.

Anyone hear what is happening with international units yet?
