Hiyas,

just looking for comments from those of you who have one of these... a person I know is giving me a good deal on one of these (the standard model) and I'm looking for feedback on the rifle (good shooter, reliable, specs, good/bad things, etc...??).

comments/info? :)

Thanks!! I apreciate it :)

Ruger 77 MK11

I have one in 338 mag and have nothing bad to say about it, its very accurate weather proof as its stainless and big enough in caliber that I can go anywhere and feel safe in the bush cuz some of those fuzzy critters hunt back............

Ruger M77

I have a Stainless 'All Weather' in 223rem cal. I am very happy with it. I dressed it with a 6-24x40 Tasco Tactical/varmint scope and is printing 1/4" three shot groups at 100 yards with my loads. I Recommend it for the price.:D

Ive got one that I will be selling :( its the standard model in 3006 nary a problem with after almost 30 years...I dont see how you could go wrong with one .

The Ruger M77 MKII is my favourite. I started with an All-weather in .308win and it always comes on a hunting trip with me. I recently sold a .243 All-Weather (didn't want to, but it wasn't being used). I currently own and have on order another in stainless, the 350 Rem Mag.

All of my MKII's have shot well out of the box and even better with handloads. Ruger barrels (I have heard) don't usually like to be free-floated. But I have never bothered messing with mine since they all shoot very well.

These rifles are rugged and dependable and I have never had a problem with any of them. You won't go wrong with a M77 MKII.

Good luck.

I think you are a bit confused the Mark II 77 Ruger is not 30years old yet.
You have a Mark I
There is a big difference in the two models, the Mark I has a tang safety, while the Mark II comes with a 3 position wing type safety(et al Mod 70 Win.)
and the most lawyer proof trigger in the world.

All that aside they are decently reliable rifles with a good reputation for accuracy, might think of an after market trigger though.

I fondled one for the first time today at Granlund's . Not as smooth as a Tikka which I was playing with too but very robust feeling. The trigger is crisp but on the heavy side. Nice fit and finish. I really like the floorplate release. Too many safetys but that's the deal now I guess... Nice rifle. It could well be my next new production rifle. :)

Had one in 6.5x55mm once. Bought it new in box. Shot sub 1" right outta the box. Should've never sold it... :( Get the picture?;)

Ruger

Just picked up a 243 recently. Damn. I'm shooting Federal Power Shock (the cheap stuff), 80 grain SP's into .5 to .7 3 shot groups from the bench. Crazy accurate for a totally factory gun. that includes the less than desireable ruger trigger.

I've got one in 30-06.It's my number 1 gun. They come with the ruger rings and I kinda like the boat paddle stock.I'm pretty sure that stock would survive a nuclear blast.Mine doesn't like the 165's but shoots the 180's great.I prefer 180's anyways.I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Ruger.

I hear the barrel is not free floating... does that make a big difference? or is it?

Thanks

No, the barrels aren't floated, nor are they bedded well in the stock. Doesn't seem to make a difference. From what I've heard, free-floating a sporter-weight barrel is mostly a waste of time.

I have a left handed one in 30-06 and it groups 1" @ 100 yards (3 shots) and 1 3/4" @ 200 yards with my 150 Accubond load. It is a really nice all around hunting rifle and I plan on keeping it for quite some time.

I've got two, one Mark I, and a MarkII stainless. Love em both, and wont be parting with either soon;)

I've taken a liking to the rather robust action, and have got both triggers tweaked to be very nice for a hunting rifle. Neither were particularly bad, but both could use adjusting to make it more shooter friendly.
The newer ones are easily workable, but I'd advise taking them to a smith to adjust unless you've done it before. I still havent shot my 338, but the 25-06 is plenty accurate with 117gr btsp's, and I rolled up a bunch of 75gr vmax's with chilly willy for it to see how it likes them. I like the Mark I safety better, but the bolt is smoother in the MkII (looser tolerances I think) I've shot a boatpaddle MarkII in 7mm quite a bit, and a buddy of mine has one with the paddle in 270, that shoots MOA with 130 gr SST's. I gave him my factory synthetic stock for the 338, because his boatpaddle was a embellished one, with wood inlays and lazer etching etc( it was nice) so why ruin it hunting.

Needless to say, everyone I know with them, love em...

I tend to p!ss of the range markers at bisley with mine in 223 as it takes out the last shot marker every time with american eagle 55 gn 223.
