Hi,

What is the consensus on these original M77's? I have one in 308 and it seems to have one of the 'good' barrels that allows it to shoot decent groups. What are they valued at?

Would they be considered more desirable than a Mark II or Hawkeye?

Having had a couple Mark IIs and several Hawkeyes in assorted chamberings, I would have to say yes.
The tang safety Rugers I have owned exhibited a better finish and workmanship in my opinion, my favorite Deer rifle is a '76 vintage Tang safety 257 Roberts acquired in a swap from a superb CGNer ( a huge Thanks Doug ).
For sure its a keeper....

$475 to $675 shipped

Seems about right.

I've got a Kendallized stocked M77 in 308win and it has been my go to rifle before the BLR 81 358 showed up.
Great rifle and I've considered selling it until I bring it out........nahhhhhhhh........she's a keeper.

The only negative I found is the super aesthetically pleasing rubber recoil pad is hard and is a little short. I may consider a Pachmayer Decelerator but I just love the red contrast.

I'm ok with the red recoil pad on my Roberts because there is no recoil...... now if that were on a 338 Win. Mag. or some such thumper it might be a different story....

Oh how I love mine in 308. Shoots about 0.75 MOA at 100m with one factory load, and probably averages around 1.25 MOA with most others. Love this gun, and will never sell her. I payed $450 for her, and I considered that a great price. The seller said he had 5 "I'll take it!s" in the first ten minutes and wished he of asked for more, lol.

What do you guys thinks of the integral scope mounts that Ruger uses?

I really do like the integral system ,but as I've said in other forums past there have been a couple instances where I received crappy ring sets with my Ruger rifles when bought brand new.
One set had an egg - shaped lower base and another set for a different rifle had no thread for the ring screws in the rear set and only one side threaded for a screw in the front ring.
I called the warranty agency and they advised that I return the rings directly to Ruger with a letter which I did via registered mail..... and never received a reply.
Since that time I found out that Redfield made a ring set for Rugers so I've slowly been shopping for those and replacing my Ruger rings.
The Redfield is a much nicer and slightly lighter, trimmer ring.

Are the rings provided by Ruger made of aluminum or steel? It'd be nice to get a list of aftermarket support. Any idea on Leupold?

The Ruger ring is steel I'm sure, way too heavy to be aluminum.
I wish Talley would make rings to fit the Ruger as I have several sets of those and I think they are awesome not to mention very light.

I have a 243 HB up for sale currently. Lots of people looking but no takers. I enjoyed the rifle and it has seen some wear. I liked the workmanship of the rifles. I just have too many in the pile right now. Anyone have a short action stock available?

Greg
