Ruger-Made Marlin Lever-Action 1895 SBL Rifle: First Look

Light piece with a lot of recoil. The butt stock to receiver fit should be perfect full contact. At $1779.00 that shouldn’t be too much to ask.

Said by someone who hasn’t shot one… this kicks way less than my 12g and more of a push then a snap of a 308… the but stock on these is an 1 1/2 of soft rubber… even before the Rugar upgrades this is a great rifle add the muzzle break and it will kick like a kitten.

This is not about recoil. Wood to metal fitment should be better than this. We're not talking about a Mossberg or Savage. This should be #1 on Ruger's list. The devil is in the details. Yes, I've been burned by Marlin in the past, so it's easy for me to spot deficiencies--but this one is plainly obvious.

Well almost ALL the cracked 2-piece stocks I've seen over the decades started with poor fitting. If you have intermittent contact, the recoil force only applies to the wood that touches the metal. Laminated wood can crack also. I've owned 2 that split in poorly glued areas.

Agreed. Marlins have a number of contact points in their buttstocks. A properly fitted stock is a must. Surprised to see that gap myself, especially on a show gun. $1800 is way steep IMHO.

That gap, everyone is talking about is 1/32 or less. Remlins had serious miss fit, misaligned of metal and wood, almost all tilted, poorly indexed barrels/sights.

My issue would be the price. Marlin 1895 are a woods range, thick cover, anything but all around hunting rifle. What's the final price after Kanadian peso conversion, and passing through several distributor/retailer? Prices for JM 1895 in the EE are ridiculous, but might seem a bargain. Suppose people have a right to complain if it's not perfect as a $3k rifle.

Not so sure it's 1/32. That would bug the hell out of me. And the fact that its better than the Remlins is little consolation. I know Ruger can do better and let's hope their dicked up demo guns are improved upon. It's important for Ruger to hear real world feedback, not pay-for-positive reviews.

Yeah... give them a call, I'm sure they can use some help with building guns.

There seems to be a demand for these rifles so I expect them to sell as fast as they can build them for the next year or two. I don't like laminate stocks but Ruger has made lots of laminate stock rifles so I'm sure they will figure out how to mind the gap. ;)

$1699 when the old SBL’s were in the last run there were $1549 in my option I’m surprised it’s not over 2K with demand and improvements.

Can't say I'm a fan of the polished receiver against the brushed stainless barrel look.

Suppressor or Brake ready with threaded barrel?

Nope.. takes away from the original design and purpose IMO, which is a short fast handling Lever with irons for thick hardwoods or brush country.

$1800-$2K CDN price once landed and avail? Doubt it for me, given the above and the noted fitment issues.

You had one job Ruger... just bring back the Marlin line as is/was..

If the price goes North of $2K, you would have to be nuts to choose the Marlin 1895 over a No.1-S.
