hey all, got someone interested in trading their 22/45 Mk IV Tactical for my CZ P-09. they sent in their ticket for the recall fix, but was only told nothing available for Canada at this time, will follow up later...and there's never been a follow up.

can anyone advise what they've done to get theirs fixed so they can use it safely?

I gave mine back to the store that sold it to me and they sent it in to the Ruger warranty service centre to have the recall performed.

That was 3 months ago and I haven't had any updates yet.

I, just today, got an email from Ruger regarding the Mark IV recall. Snapshots is indeed the certified centre handling this. Ruger says it should be a one week turnaround once they receive your grip frame.
Once you get the recall email instruction from Ruger, they direct you to contact Snapshots for a pre-paid shipping label; send them the lower frame only (no barrel, no bolt). Remove your grip panels and any aftermarket. THAT LAST BIT IS IMPORTANT!!
Snapshots is not doing any mods to the frame you send in, they will be giving you an all new frame with the free magazine and black plastic grip panels… so if you send in your wooden grip panels or aftermarket attachments, poof!, you'll lose them.

Anyway, that's how it was all explained to me in the email from Ruger. We'll see how it goes.

I received the same email from Ruger advising me to contact Snapshots to make arrangements for shipping the frame to Snapshots. I called Snapshots and spoke with Jeremie who advised me to email to - snapshots@videotron.ca - my complete name, address and model with serial number of my Ruger MKIV. He also advised me to include with my email the dimensions of the box I would be using to ship the frame as he would email me a prepaid shipping label for me to use in order to ship the frame free of charge to Snapshots. The turn around time would be about 1 week.

I shipped my Ruger MKIV Hunter to Snapshots today. Will see just how long it really takes for the replacement frame to be sent to me.

"Ruger recently discovered that all Mark IV™ pistols (including 22/45™ models) manufactured prior to June 1, 2017 have the potential to discharge unintentionally if the safety is not utilized correctly. In particular, if the trigger is pulled while the safety lever is midway between the "safe" and "fire" positions (that is, the safety is not fully engaged or fully disengaged), then the pistol may not fire when the trigger is pulled. However, if the trigger is released and the safety lever is then moved from the mid position to the "fire" position, the pistol may fire at that time."

"July 5, 2017 - RECALL UPDATE!
Thank you for your patience as we work through the Mark IV™ recall. We now have parts in stock and have started shipping boxes to U.S. consumers. Please keep in mind that we are shipping boxes to consumers on a first-come, first-served basis. When you receive your box will depend upon when you signed up for the retrofit. We are working diligently to retrofit consumers' grip frame assemblies as quickly as possible and will make every effort to return your grip within one week of the day we receive it. We sincerely appreciate your understanding!"

Firearms NOT subject to the Recall

Newly manufactured Mark IV™ pistols will begin with serial number "500." Thus, if you have a Mark IV™ or 22/45™ pistol with a serial number beginning with the number "5," your pistol is not subject to the recall.

Firearms That Have Been Retrofitted Already

Finding Retrofit Marking Mark IV™ and 22/45™ pistols retrofitted with the updated safety mechanism are easily identified by the letter "S" in the white safety dot that is visible when the safety is engaged.

Do you normally use the safety on your pistols? If not, then this issue is a non issue for you. I've never used the safety on my Mark III since I don't holster it loaded.

Technically speaking you have a defective firearm. If you decide to sell it sometime down the road, the potential buyer has every right to ask if you've upgraded the pistol.

Filled out the form at Rugers site a few weeks ago. They replied via email last Friday the 8th and said to contact Snap Shots.

Emailed SS this past Sunday and they replied the next day asking for box dimensions. Sent them that info yesterday and got my prepaid shipping label early this morning.

Need a 3/32 allen key IIRC to remove grip panels.

Shipping to Snaphots was fast. Dropped it at the post office Tuesday (Sept 12) evening, tracking showed it as delivered this afternoon (Sept 14). Let's hope it is as quick on the return trip. Ruger states the service standard is approx. one week once they get the frame. I'll update as more happens.

While that is true, it's not the point. He was asking if it was a safe firearm and if you don't rely on the safety (which you shouldn't anyways) it is. He could put in for the recall and have it fixed long before a sale

Not that it helps with your warranty being through Snapshot. But I did go through Ruger direct for mine and they had it done in a week. So they are holding true to what they say. Lets hope the Canadian counterpart is the same.

PS, I really like my MK4, fantastic pistol.

For some people, the idea that "if you don't use the safety it doesn't matter" might be true...

In my case, every once in a while, my grip has a tendency to 'nudge' the safety partially up from the fire position on my Mk IV. After doing this (and not noticing), the gun wouldn't fire when the trigger was pulled.

Then it gets interesting - I take my finger off the trigger, notice the safety was partially on, and move it back to the fire position and 'bang!'. Glad it was pointing down range as it just fired with no trigger contact.

The recall is going to fix exactly my problem... if you never use the safety, great, but make sure you never even touch the safety if you're not going to get the recall done. Or be careful letting anyone else use it at the range.

*not everyone's pre-recall Mk IV is as sensitive as mine was to the partial safety fault*

Well, that was fast. Grip frame arrived from Snapshots this afternoon. All told, one week including shipping time to there and back.

So as Ruger described, you get an all new grip frame with the black plastic grip panels and an included free magazine. It also has the small "s" stamped on the white dot of the safety indicator as described on the Ruger web site.

So on to the reason it was sent back. With my original grip frame, indeed I could get it to 'misbehave' as described by the recall. Now, after numerous attempts, the new one will not. Be aware that if you place the safety in the halfway position now, a trigger pull can force the safety into the fire position and drop the hammer; depends how far it is switched. With the safety fully or 'mostly' in the safe position, it will not fire.

I did not really rely on the safety before to keep me and others safe, I depended on an unloaded firearm and safe handling practices for that. Regardless, the recall has been satisfied and all is good.

How where you able to deal directly with Ruger? They wouldn't sighting iTAR as the reason.

Well I received my MKIV replacement Frame back from Location Snap Shots today. I mailed on Sept. 11th and it's back in my hands today Sept. 19th. Excellent service all around. Thanks to Ruger and their professional handling of this situation and of course Location Snap Shots for their fast repair service. They have to be one of the best warranty centers in Canada.

Bought it from IrunGUNS USA. And the recall came in before it was shipped to Canada. So they did the warranty repair with rugar for me then shipped it to me. Go IRG!

Is a recalled Mark IV the same as a new revised one? It's at the top of my list for my 1st handgun. I figure any for sale for the next little while are going to be the recalled ones.
