Ruger Mini-14 WTF!

I was in the local Canadian Tire today and happened to look at the large number of rifles they have in stock. Most bolt action rifles are between $750 and $1000.

There was a blue and wood Mini-14 for $1250. That seems out of line. I had a Mini-14 40 years ago and it functioned well but shot minute of dinner plate.

Do people buy these at that price?
 
Go back and check every few days, if your curiosity has gotten the better of you... if it sits there until 2019, you have your answer.

But, most people have not yet caught up to the new reality of Ruger pricing, which has been exponential over the past three years... M77 Internationals @ $1500, No.1's @ $2100... and they are still selling.
 
I purchased 3 stainless/synthetic 580 series minis in 2013 for $650 each from Frontier Firearms. It seems like ever since our dollar took a dive Ruger's pricing took a massive jump and never came back down. In the intervening years I let those rifles go and now have 2 583 series rifles. Both shoot under 2'' with handloads not tailored to the rifles. If I put some time of effort into it I am condfident I could get that close or under 1'' but I am not bothered where it's at now. The old minis definitely deserve their reputation for poor accuracy but the new rifles shoot just fine.

I cruise by the gun cabinet in our local CTC every now and then for the entertainment factor. It's a small cabinet, but the prices make up for that by being some of the biggest I have ever seen. Also, lots of Savage ' 'products' too. They must just go with manufacturer's suggested retail price and then wait. And wait...
 
The C-tire in Swift has been blowing guns out for the past couple of months. Picked up a Weatherby Vanguard compact .243 , GH2 camo for $400 and a Ruger American compact .243 for $340. New mini 14s at $999

Yes, my local CT prices firearms at MSRP. However they WILL price match if you push them hard enough PLUS give you 10% of the difference in CT money.

Problem is they never have anything worth buying anymore. So, likewise, I too simply take a walk past just for the entertainment value...

Hah i was just in the local sports store and it was 1150 for blued and 1200 for stainless ! Ive wanted one for years n years
I coulda picked one up For 620 at walmart, but i chose to wait... it still haunts me

I always wondered. I didn't think I was missing anything special. Couldn't for the life of me realize why people paid that for them.

Now I realize why people who have ruger CLING to that statement that it is a better gun then the rest. They dont want to feel duped. I would pay 600 for a mini 14... Not 1200...

Can you name another,NON RESTRICTED, 556/.223 Semi auto, that is as reliable and easy to use/carry, for less money? Never mind that is a pleasure to shoot, even with our stupid mag restriction laws ? I would own 10 mini's if I could afford them!

I don't agree... I am still buying them, and so are a lot of others, as Ruger is doing better business than most of the major manufacturers... the reason that people are paying the increased cost is that Ruger M77's and No.1's represent solid quality and good value... so you are actually getting something for your money, compared to the $1000 junk flooding the market. Ask yourself; "Would I rather pay $1000 for a piece of crap, or $1500 for a quality rifle." Partially the cost increases are the result of Ruger stepping into the low end market to put out products that compete with other manufacturers... once the price point was established for the American line, there needed to be some disparity between them and the higher end lines of the M77 and No.1's, which opened a laneway for Ruger to increase the suggested retail amounts... for us in Canada, our weak dollar over the past couple years really kicked us in the nads too...
 
The local CT have Steyr 7mm since 2013.
It was $1350 in 2013, it then jumped to $1750 in 2017.
It just recently went on sale for $1150.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same gun.
