Ruger MINI 14

I had a Min14 and a Mini 30.

The 14 was minute of barn ONLY if I was IN the barn.

The 30 was a very good 2 MOA hunting rifle.

Both were what would be considered old models. I have no idea if newer ones are better.
 


Mine, complete with flash hider, sling and pinned mag.

And yes, it is accurate.

In my experience, the only people I know who despise the mini 14 are the rifle elitists (You know who you are, so no hiding) and the mall ninjas who dislike the '14 because it doesn't come standard with those quad rails to mount all their tacky "Tactical" junk.

I think that the mini-14 fits its intended role perfectly. As a ranch rifle it is tough , robust and compact enough to carry with you everywhere you go. This rifle performs in all conditions , dust , rain , dirt and it always goes bang. I have one of the newer stainless models and is about a 2 moa rifle. In my opinion a 2 moa rifle that you can put through hell and back and will ALWAYS fire make a great ranch / varmint / predator / working rifle. This is not meant to be a Gucci gun , it meant to be a working rifle and at that it works great.

Mini 14 = AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
As accurate as need be not rested on a bench!
If you are not good as a shooter, it does not matter what you shoot...
 
I got one with hogue stock and a trs25. Love it. It also loves eating AE bulk .223

I have had the same one for years, first in a butler creek folder, now in the archangel sparta stock, fired thousands of rounds. I've had 1 maybe 2 fte in all the years I've had it. And I've used lots of cheap ammo, also taken out in rain and gets muddy on the quad, found it to be very reliable . Accuracy isn't bad either. I would buy another one.
 
Just a little note of interest, buddy bought a mini 30, put it on paper to discover it was a 2MOA rifle with surplus ammo. He brought it over for me to check out. The crown on the barrel was rough by my eye, I recrowned and chamfered it and am pleased to say it became a 1MOA rifle. Somethin you might wanna check out if your trying to squeeze a little more out of these great guns.
 
I've had mine for about 9 years and have always been happy with it's accuracy using handloads or the 45gr Winchester bulk pack ammo, usually just over an inch for 3 rounds at 100. I put on new Warne rings and an old 1.5-6x20 B&L Balvar scope on it last night and went out and zeroed it this morning. I think this new setup will make an excellent close cover fox, coyote rifle.

Yep 3 round groups, same as I use for all my hunting rifles as I have never needed more than 2 rounds per animal when hunting. Besides ammo's expensive.
