I have two of these beauties myself.
Any other fans of the ROA got any recommendations for a cylinder loader for conicals outside the gunframe?
Let's hear a pipe in for other owners and please feel free to share you experience with them. ;)

I recently picked up a spare cylinder from Classicballistx out of Dallas and tresos from The Possibles Shop in New Mexico. In the longer ROA the spare cylinder is a bit too tight in one spot. But in the shorter one the spare times just fine for all six notches.

Cheers!

It is so nice to get to the range with two loaded cylinders. We only shoot one cylinder at our monthly BP shoot, so I bring a spare for anyone who wants to try it. I won last year's cumulative points award. Just too much fun in one gun.

I have two ROA's and :yingyang: , if the CFO ever decides to get my LTATT in order :stirthepot2: , I definitely plan on shooting them !....

The ROA is really an incredible concept, even better than the current copies of Winchester 1873's being made with modern materials.

I read your court case proceedings that was posted on CGN cyclone. Man! You've got one hell of an interesting case friend with the ball in your court.
Lot's of luck with that cyclone & thank you very much for standing up to abuse of the system!

Edit: And thanks for the comments here guys! These two might, just might, sometimes get used with T7 or Pyrodex P versus my other muzzleloaders that are used with the Holy Black only. I am extremely hesistant to use the newer substitutes down the long barrel of a 'hawken' rifle and will never use sub's it in my flintlock shotgun.

Cheers............

Here is a picture of a loading stand that was made by a CGN'er for use with a 1873 SAA cap and ball which needs to be loaded outside the gun, the plunger end is concave so it doesn't damage the ball too much. I have been thinking of trying to load a .452'' round nose bullet into the cylinder but it seems a bit tight.
I have used Triple Seven in repro revolvers and it works well, it does have some extra punch which I am certain the ROA can handle.

When is the CFO getting charged with Contempt? Soon I hope. Kudos for taking those bastards to court and winning.

Great idea!!

Here in yUK I've had my ROA since my birthday in 1986, and shoot it most weekends. Because of the cartridge-firing handgun ban here in England, Scotland and Wales, a nice big BP revolver is about as near as most folks will ever get to shooting a real-live handgun, so on our 12/year guestdays there's a line by the BP handgun firing points.

Here we use BP, 777, and Pyrodex P. All are easy to obtain, although you need a permit for BP and you are limited to 25kg. I also have a second-series Colt Walker, serial #18** - THAT gets real attention on lighting up the 50gr loads.

See the ROA in action on Youtube - tac's guns Ruger Old Army.

If you want to, that is.

No pressure.

Ah, yes, that's my pal shooting his new ROA - he got it the day before I took the movie. The load is ca.28gr of 777. Shoots that like crap. We cut it down to 25gr and the improvement is remarkable - same load I've been using since forever. Well, almost.

I'm still testing the waters around my gun club, where there are about ten or twelve of them, about getting a local machinist component company to rattle off some cylinder base pins for less than $50 they quoted last time. As I'm sure tohat you all know, there are no longer any spares that are not common with the [Super] Blackhawk from Ruger, in spite of thier promise to support OOP models for ten years....

Not really a fan here but a custom 'smith in the states at Clements Custom Guns machines out the cyl for greater capacity. Do a search on Kaido Ojamaa for custom bullets for the ROA.
Or look on pg 12 of Spring 2013 Guns of the Old West for the original article

Classicballistx makes a retrofit ROA cylinder (blued or stainless or polished stainless with a fluting option) that is already reamed for slightly greater capacity. Clements custom is most noted for his calibre conversion of factory .44 to .50 calibre in the ROA.

I get great accuracy with hornady round balls.

Why conicals?

For those shopping the ROA is always available on gunbroker.
I picked up a matched pair, consecutive serial numbered, and unfired pair of ROA's couple of years back.
And still unfired too.

Prior to that I did get one a ROA this forum.
But as stated can be a long wait.

I built a loading stand to load with cylinder in place.
What is advantage to removing the cylinder???
