ruger p89 vs glock 17

er, glock over the ruger, (to bad, I like rugers but hate glocks, they feel awkward) but I'd take a XD over both of them and come out of it with a holster and mag pouches...:dancingbanana:

Yes, the XD is a sweet pistol. For me, the grip angle is better, and the grip is smaller than the P89. Better grip angle vs the G17, slimmer polymer grip vs the P89 = best of both worlds.

I'd still get a Cz 75 SP-01 Tactical though. :D

If you're like me, and think Glocks are ugly as sin, get a P89. Just sold mine to get a P94, but I LOVED the P89. Accurate, rugged, reliable. Not ugly as sin either.. :)

Ruger, the brick that works.

Have the P-89 , P-95 & the Glock 17.

My Ruger P-95 is the one I would bet my life on. Ultra reliable & durable as well as being as accurate as the Glock 17.....................then again accuracy depends on who is shooting.

Superman vs. Zorro

It looks more like Batman Vs. Zorro.

By the way, are we comparing apples to oranges. I thought that P89 and G17 are in totally different categories. One is Alloy frame and the other is a polymer. One has hammer and the other striker fired. One has manual external safety or decocker depending on the model (excluding DAOs) and the other just safety on trigger (exculding internals).

I have a KP89 decocker-only Stainless Steel. I am very happy with it. Accurate, a nice fit (though I changed the factory grips to the fingergrooved hogue which makes a big difference) and also handled G17. Glock is a fine gun too but does not beat the great value of P89 with at least 50% lower price.:)

Sadly, they aren't even that pretty, glock is the one pistol that to me is truly a tool and nothing else. My pistols get treated very well, but a glock, I'd just toss it in the bottom of the bag, you can make it uglier....That being said, it would work everytime you pulled it out too, but so does my XD, and it has a better trigger to boot :D

Actually, I believe the glock system is a DAO system, the trigger finishes cocking the striker before fireing. The XD is SA with passive saftey, (grip and trigger), striker fully cocked each shot.

Either gun is OK, but you are still stuck with a little 9mm. Get a 45 1911, which is better than either one! (As for my choice between the two, I'd get the P89. I've had a lot of experience with both, and while the Glock may have more parts available, you will need those parts more often. The Ruger seems to last a lot longer than the Glock and is more reliable. It looks better too. But in the Glocks defense, I do find the Glock easier to shoot.)

Do you work for Ruger, or something?

They are both 9mm autoloading pistols. Let's not overgeneralize. Both are made to do the exact same thing for the exact same people.

G vs R

hmmmm... had a P85 and a G17... no longer have the P85, but now have a couple Glocks... you figure out which are better, in my opinion :p

seriously, the Ruger wasn't bad - it was just as reliable as any Glock I've owned, but it was a big, heavy, not-too-accurate brick. I've been waaaaay happier with the Glocks:dancingbanana:

take care

What about the Glock "Kaboom" issue?
Does that apply to the G17s?

Any gun can blow up, for a variety of reasons. On the front page of this forum is a story about a blown up 1911.

Fact is, for every other gun out there, there are two glocks, it seems like. So if there are 10,000 rugers, and 10,000,000 glocks, you are going to hear about a lot more glock blow ups.

Don't let those stories put you off.

glock vs ruger

I have a p89 and it works very well. I have shot the glock many times and it is a very solid pistol. The glock is much better but if you are looking for a range gun and the glock doesnt fit your budget the ruger is fine.

my p-85 is excellent, but a little rough around the edges. Always works, built like a tank, will take abuse the glock wouldn't dream of. That said no one I know of would ever need to abuse a pistol in that fashion. A better comparison to the glock would be the sr9.
