Well ####...
Guess I had a squib and didn't notice. Felt ok, but an obvious miss. Next one, still not hitting steel. Mmm... one more... felt sparks on my face.
Examine the rifle for good measure.... oh yeah... barrel is bulged right out and fractured in the middle.
Thank goodness the poly handguard is stout! Feeling very lucky.
BUT...would like to know if anyone knows of an aftermarket barrel that I could get to canada?
I'll email ruger to see if there is any option and post an update.
9mm pc carbine BTW.

Stay safe!

Glad nobody was hurt.

I'd check with whoever you bought it from, hopefully they'll be able to sort it out quickly.

Gravel Agency is the current warranty center. But I'd fire off a quick email to Snapshots (former warranty center) to see if they might have a barrel for you, they're pretty good to deal with.

Glad to hear you are ok and it wasn't worse than it was. Curious - was it factory ammo, and if so, what kind and grain, or was it reloads?

Thanks... it was maxxtech aluminum case. 124gr?
Had several squibs prior to this, but always could tell something wasn't right. Might be better suited to a pistol? Better chance of clearing the barrel at least?
Cheap crap to be sure anyway...

Maxxtech...made by Grasso, I believe which is out of Eastern Europe (I seem to recall Bosnian). I have heard a lot of not so good things about the quality control of these - a friend of mine bought a bunch, and there were a few duds in the box. Thankfully I haven't seen it sold in too many places in Canada (I seem to have seen it last at maybe a Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas?).

This is not to be confused with Magtech, which is much better (I think it's from Brazil) and share the same parent company as S&B.

Regardless, glad you came out unscathed from this. Ruger PCCs should be fine with aluminum. I know FO doesn't recommend it for the FX9, but to the best of my knowledge, I don't recall the Ruger manual having the same prohibition.

Hopefully you're able to source a new barrel soon.

Update... sent the whole thing into the Gravel agency in QC,
I asked them just to source a new barrel and send it, but oooh noo... they had to evaluate it. Duh... obviously not a warranty issue. Eventually they get around to looking at it and yes, it needs a barrel. Right. The barrel is just under 300 and then they want 1.5 hours to clean and "headspace the the barrel" wtf... I told them that wasn't necessary...
Agreed to a total around 400. Which is fine, but still don't have it back yet... should have bought the barrel someone else offered, but you live and learn... the wheel turns slowly sometimes, but should get it back in action eventually.

So what ammo is everybody feeding these? I'm thinking about picking one up, but not if it's gonna be fussy about cheap rounds.

There's cheap, and then there's cheeeeep. Any basic 9mm factory ammo should be fine from the major brands - The Ruger PCC is famously tolerant but there can be exceptions. Aluminum case also should be fine for the Ruger 9mm (40S&W manual says no to this).

I have put almost 300 rnds of win. USA forged steel case with no problems at all.

Ah, good to know, thanks.

I shoot reloads in mine. It groups best with Campro 147s ( 1.55" at 50 yards). Campro 124s are about 2.3" (7X scope)

I shot some Winchester white box 115s and it grouped quite well. I consider that "cheap" ammo.

Glad you were not injured. PCC's, especially blowbacks, in general run best on 115grn national brand ammo (fedral, CCI, s&b, etc.). They need the extra oomf to cycle the bolt properly. Anything with a fps over 1050 seems to be ok. Maxxtech are known for light powder loads, great for pistols, but that longer barrel won't appreciate them. 124grn factory always seems to work in mine

Glad you are Ok and were not injured. Its unfortunate that your wallet took a hit.

I have run Blazer and Federal 115 aluminum and a variety of 124 brass without any issues. Like other have stated Maxxtech is very dirty and unreliable.

Yeah, I've only ever witnessed squibs in handguns, and even they can get missed in the heat of the moment (say, in the middle of a competition).

I'm running a VG6 Precision Epsilon brake on my Ruger PC, and it has very minimal recoil - makes me wonder if I'd catch a squib in time.
