Is anyone using the 5 round AICS pmags in their Ruger Precision Rifle? If so would you recommend them? I'd like to pick up some extra mags for my RPR in 308 and would prefer the 5 rounders to the 10 rounders. Googling around it appears as though the 10 rounders work fine but info is scarce on the 5ers

Thanks!

Probably not many people buying the 5 rounders that's why not a lot of dealers stock them. People prefer the 10 rounders for more capacity.

Any AICS pattern mag will work on the RPR.

I run a Ruger branded 5 rounder in my gunsite scout for hunting because I don’t like the big long 10s for those situations and it’s been flawless. I also have a PMAG 5 that’s been perfect and was quite a bit cheaper than the steel one.

I had trouble with steel Accurate Mags in my RPR, But then I figured out the lips were not bent correctly. They were more narrow at the front of the mag than at the back and that caused rounds to wedge in there so I couldn't feed.

Once I figured that out, fixing the problem was easy.

I just jammed a flat screwdriver between two paint stir sticks between the lips near the front and gave it a twist. It took a couple tries and I was careful not to over do it, but it did correct the issue and now it feeds fine.

Other than that I have had no problems with any AI pattern mags in the 308 RPR. That includes the MDT plastic mags, steel Accurate Mags and real steel AI mags.

Although now that I think about it, I can recall that during competition the mag fell out on me a couple times... Not sure why, but I'm confident that it was seated and then somehow let go. I may have inadvertently bumped the release.. not sure, but you might want to watch for that.
