Just got my Ruger Precision Rifle in 308. I sighted in the scope using approximately 20 rounds. Third mag with just Federal FMJ's at 100 yards I am literally firing through the same hole on many shots. I fired 11 rounds into the target, and all but two are less than an inch away from the bull. Very accurate rifle, probably the most accurate one I have ever owned.

About the cheapest you will find factory match ammo it Hornady 155 steel match, give it a try and see how the group is then. This is a group of 5 with it, the other 4 holes you see are shoot a random hole and then try to put another round through the hole game.

Wow, awesome group. Yes I plan on trying some match ammo to bring the group in tight.

The rifle should be more capable than that when fed the right diet..

Yes going to try some match next. Still pretty impressed with the group with the cheap stuff though. I will update with a new pic when I grab the appropriate ammo. Anyone reading this thread please add some pics of your targets, really interested to see other RPR's accuracy.

Here is one picture from my last session. I tried a bunch of different hunting ammo first without any success. Then I shot 2 three shot groups with the federal 175 grain red box at 100 yards. I was rushing because there was a thunderstorm coming and they are only 3 shot groups so my first one on top was pretty bad. The second one I slowed down even though it was about to get nasty and it was much better. Barrell was very hot. I'm just putting the finishing touches on my reloading room so load development will start soon.

Ruger Precision Rifle Trivia;
Robert K. Brown editor of Soldier of Fortune magazine, there was a recent article written about him & his career.
And it so he happened on this particular day, he was shooting exactly this rifle at an outdoor rifle range in New Mexico.

just info

First I will say I am NOT a experienced long distance shooter But wanting to give it a go I purchased a RPR in 6.5 creedmoor and a vortex pst scope 1st shot 25m 2 inches high ... On to 100m and 2nd shot 6 inches low .. 0n to to 200m and third shot 7 inches low ... On to steel targets at 500 m ,, hit right side first shot. 2nd and 3rd shots hit at 500m also .. On to 800m and I missed a bunch of times untill I realized I didn't spend enough time dialling my scope in and I was about 2 moa right .. After correcting my zero 3 hits in a row at 800m ... On to 1km (1000m) and hits on 3rd , 4th and 6th shots ,,, on to 1200m, a 12 inch steel target and I scared the #### out of it with my last few remaining bullets but left it unscathed untill next time ..... Point of the story is the RPR makes a rookie shoot like a pro,,, I love this gun and it's not even broke in yet

I fancy one of these and from what I can tell its the best priced tactical precision rig out there - is that accurate?

From what I`ve read the 6.5 Creedmoor is a gets great reviews although the 308 may be easier to find (cheap) ammo for

Ditto, what he said

I also have the 6.5 . Haven't been out past 500 meters yet,but it sure shoots some nice small groups ,for this old guy.

Like the man said, amazes me and big fun! I have the LilBastard II muzzle brake, works like a charm, you stay right on target with the shot. Shot a 5 shot 1/2" group at 100yds with factory 140grAmax load ( discontinued now) Match bullets and Berger bullets do the same or better.

:)

I finally got some great groupings with my RPR in .308, using 167 Senars I was able to get 2 - 4 round groups pretty tight at 200 meters which is a long ways from the groups i was getting with 165 SST's. Sorry i cant post picts but the first group was .501 x .719 and the second .760 x .626 I had to call it quits because the mirage was getting really bad at 32C and 62% humidity.
