Ruger rifle inserts M77 ... ???

Thanks very much to hoytcanon as he is shipping the wood maker some cocobola wood. I've also purchased this nice set for another Ruger I think I just acquired from a friend but in 243.

Otokiak,

cant answer directly but our late local gunsmith was able to do it in the past for Ruger hawkeye and 77 mkII so doable and you wont need that aftermarket trigger.

good luck with your project.

As I recall from my Rugers the MkI (aka tang safety) was adjustable, strictly speaking the MkII is not adjustable but a knowledgeable person could do it, it would involve replacing or modifying parts.

Ok so one is yes & one is no ... ??? Hahaha. Do you know if Timney or other name brand trigger companies make one for the M77?

Muskox horn would be cool kamlooky but I really like the cherry coloured wood as in my original post.

#### yes that would look good. Glue it to a fibre spacer and you're off to the races. It would almost be worth picking up a canoe paddle to give it a whirl (if I had a better supply of muskox horn that is).

Just grabbed this of the web but they look like this:

I sold a boat paddle M77 MkII short action stock just like that on the EE here awhile back.

It was on my stainless 7.62x39mm but I put it in a regular synthetic stock as the boat paddle ones just aren't my thing. Since, got a nice pepper laminate stock for the barreled action, too.

So, the the stocks with the factory wood inserts are out there. ;)

Trigger is not adjustable, although a gunsmith could bring the pull weight down I'm sure. I just put a Timney in mine. Took a bit of filing as per Timney instructions and polishing on the end but I was very pleased with the results. The trigger took my canoe paddle from a half ass shooter to a great shooter. It was remarkable the difference it made. Got the trigger from Mystic Precision-Site sponsor!

Thank you sir for that info. I shall have to contact Jerry!

My pleasure. Jerry had it across the country pretty quick. I was very pleased with his service. The area to be filed is marked with toolers dye by Timney but not the depth. The depth that it has to be filed is substantial. If you lay it together before filing you can get a good idea how much. Get it close then remove small amounts with frequent assembly checks. When it is to the point of the safety engages/disengages with effort, polish it (1000 grit) from there to get "the sweet spot"! Kit comes with another spring for very light pressure. I used the original spring and have my pressure set to 3.5 lbs.

Waiting on a Timney trigger from Mystic & have to decide on new barrel same contour but 1:8 twist either Shilen or Bartlein. Received Mexican Bocote wood inserts today.

Purchased a 243 today. Have some cocobola inserts to put on the stock. Also have a Vortex 3-9x40 viper scope to install. Got to contact mystic again to get another Timney trigger. I will post pics soon.
