So I thought it was about time I did an update report on my Ruger SR1911.
So I have now put approximately 2,500 rounds through it, mostly my reloads. My current mix is 230gr Bullet Barn LRN with 7.0 gr of HS6. This is a nice accurate mix in my gun. With my last batch of reloads I made OAL a bit shorter than normal so the indent in the Bullet lined up with the rim of the case. I have had 2 FTF with this and I believe that either the crimp is not tight enough or the cartridge is now a bit short. 1911's tend to like them long. Verdict is still out on this until I use up all of this batch. Next I will go back to my old mix as it worked perfectly.
The original Ruger mags started to fail at about 500 rounds a piece. The lips started to spread and the cartridges where sitting nose up. This was leading to FTF problems on occasion. Bought 1 Remington 8 round, 1 Nighthawk 8 Round, 1 Para 8 round and a Chip McCormack 10 round mag to try. All have worked well with no signs of mag related problems. The Para is a bit tight and does not drop from the mag freely but is easy enough to pull out.
Gun still shoots well with no issues. Typical 1911, it is a bit fussier than a Sig 226 for example but I did 200 rounds of rapid for drill this weekend with alternating targets. Pretty much every shot was within 4" at 10 yards. Had 2 FTF as discussed above but I think that is my reload not the gun. My 226 would have handled these variations in reloads without problem. 1911's are just a bit more fussy. Shoots straight, points well, trigger has settled in nicely. Not in the same class as my Pardini but still very good and it does not affect accuracy. Left the range with a a stupid grin and nice warm fuzzy feeling. Enough said.
Nothing has broken, warn out or malfunctioned. Not really much else to say. I would love to be able to post pictures but try as I might I just can't seem to get photos into a post. Wish I could just cut and paste like every other program I use.
