Ruger SR9 Review and Range Report

Regarding the Ghost trigger products, I emailed the company in the states and they said they would not ship to Canada, and they did not respond to my request to tell me who, if anyone, was distributing for them in Canada.

There are two good SR9 modification threads over on the Ruger forums....google will guide you there if you search for:

Taking out the mag safety and cutting off a few links on the striker spring?

If you search the different threads about trigger mods for the SR9 there is not much there. I tried the the different polishing techniques, no real difference. The mag safety removal, no difference either. The one mod that did make a noticable difference is removing one coil of the strike spring, no more than one coil or light primer strikes will occur. I ordered factory Ruger striker springs and experimented. I can say for sure do not remove more than one coil from the striker spring. When you combine the Ghost rocket or ultimate trigger bar with the striker spring mod you will not believe how different the SR9 trigger feels compaired to a stock trigger. I have over 800 rounds down the pipe with not one concern since the trigger mods were done, totally different gun from stock.

I personally say keep it under 2 coils..I have cut off 1.5 - 1.75 coils and have shot 1200 rounds since and no light primer strikes...shooting everything from American Eagle, MFS, NATO rounds, S&B, Whinchester and a few different reloads buddies have done

Great review, Matt. I am really considering this pistol as my first 9mm. It's a great price point and lies in between what the M&P9 and the Steyr M9 have done to emulate the Glock. I don't really mind the abundance of safety features though ... better to overkill on those features in my opinion. Other than that I think I may have found my first 9mm.

At $440 brand new I think this is one of the most underrated polymer 9mm that we can buy in Canada right now. The ergonomics is FANTASTIC and it points naturally for me without much effort. All the external controls are at the right spots and it feels very natural operating them. The recoil is next to nothing (for a 9mm) as the bore axis is just as low as a Glock. The only thing (as I've found out) is that you should try dry-firing the gun at the store WITH the magazine in because of the magazine disconnect design - it's not that bad at all compared to the Glock trigger (in fact, I like the trigger on the SR9 a little better because it feels more crisp). The take-up is a little bit gritty but will smoothen out after breaking it in.

Mine's only got 200 rounds down the pipe but so far so good - accurate, eats all different kinds of ammo, and comfortable to shoot. I'll reserve judgement on reliability once I get to 2,000 rounds :)

Could you please tell me who is selling the SR9 for $440.00

Wholesale Sports
Italian Sporting Goods

:)

I was a little surprised by the pricing disparity when shopping for the SR9... it's anywhere between $440~$650 - quite a difference! At $650 you might as well get a Glock or M&P but at $440 it's like buying a .22 lol

Even at Italian? Well I'm not that surprised I guess - they sold 10 stainless ones in a week and had only a handful of the black ones left, when I was there a month ago. For that price you really can't get a better deal for a brand-new polymer 9mm.

450 rounds later and still loving it - minimal recoil, easy to do follow-up shots, easy to clean and maintain, and the trigger has smoothen out compared to new!

Since you live in lower mainland, you should know about the Decemeber one day big sale, I bought mine for $350's last year. Sold it shorty after because my girls didn't like it.

More info !!!

I've been in the market for one of these for a while. Missed one new for $456 (sold out) and now no one has them due to backorder.

The big sale of our lower mainkand gun store only hold once a year and is first come first service. The price are crazy. Both Reliable and Italian do this at December.
