Ruger SR9

Good bang for the buck pistol. Considered the 9E and SR9, ended up buying the S&W SD9 VE which I sold a month later. Couldn't get used to the terrible trigger. Bought a $499 Sig 2022 and hit bullseyes right out of the box, Sig's just work for me. 2022 was far superior to the SD9. The SR9/9E is supposed to be better out of the box than the SD9 as well. Hard to recommend the budget S&W pistol without a trigger job...

No need for any other budget pistols now, the lesser known Sig 2022 rules the category (for me anyway).

I bought my Stainless SR9 from Reliable a couple months back for $465. Honestly (in my limited experience) it's great. It's easy to strip and clean, eats just about anything (doesn't seem to like the winchester white box 115g, but that was when i first got it; haven't tried again) Since then I've had 600+ trouble free rounds.

One note, watch the thumb safety, it bit the wife pretty hard once when she racked the slide, drew blood. Luckily she just shrugged it off and carried on for the day. Trooper. I was worried she'd stop enjoying shooting, but that's not happened

Had one, nothing wrong with it. Shot to POA, no malfunctions. Just didn't like the trigger and trigger reset.

Well reviewed pistol except for the loaded chamber indicator and external safety that's in the way for some people. Some will not buy the pistol as they dislike these safety features.

The safeties must for the lawyers as a lot of the new models are all carrying the same things. Good for some, sucks for others. It's impossible to please everyone on anything. I have never noticed my SR9s chamber loaded indicator, because I am to busy blowing holes in paper, so it doesn't bother me at all. :)

mine started out good, but not great. A little work on the striker channel and stuff in that area got the trigger to be smooth. It was quite gritty to start. A Ghost trigger reset bar and some more polishing in some other areas made it even smoother, and with a short reset and a much nicer break. No its not a good 1911, its still a striker fired pistol, but its easily the best striker trigger I have shot.

I had a very random failure to eject happen about every 250 or so rounds, roughly. I chased that for quite a while. Couldn't nail it down. was really annoying, especially when shooting an IDPA match. Finally nailed it. Slightly bent ejector. VERY hard to see. That coupled with some slight profiling on the extractor claw and a second spring on the extractor arm and its never done it again.

I also polished the feed ramp(didn't need it per se, just liked to do it), and added a stainless guide rod and aluminum striker indicator. Its been absolutely great now. Its showing its age as it gets drawn from the holster a fair amount and I don't treat it like a show piece. Not that I abuse it, but it gets used as intended.

The only thing I don't like is the loose fit between frame and slide. If they fixed that, got rid of the external safety and made the slide release out of something nicer(stamped steel) it would be just plain awesome.

it fits my hand really well and instinctively. It points great for me. When I draw it quickly and just point it towards the target, more often than not the sights are lined up. the low bore axis works very well for me, with not much muzzle flip, low recoil(for a light pistol) and quick followups. its easy to quickly change mags without looking at the pistol or magwell.

Nice pistol, and if you can find it for under $500, its a great deal too.

I would recommend the Comp-Tac Minotaur Gladiator holster too. So nice and tight to your hip, quiet, adjustable and the leather against you is very comfortable for an all day session.

Bought one for my wife as I wanted a striker fired pistol that would comfortably fit in her hand. She did not like my Glock, Beretta's, CZ75 in 9mm but really liked the SR9 and is now enjoying shooting 9mm.

If you had a Ruger SR9 and only ever saw a Ruger SR9, you'd likely be very happy with it until you saw/held something better.

If you see a Glock or M&P you will think "Wow, the build quality on these is a lot better, my SR9 is junk in comparison".

Then if you buy a Glock or M&P, you will see something from Walther, Sig, or H&K, and think "Wow, the build quality on these is a lot better, my Glock/M&P is junk in comparison".

Most new guns go "bang" every time, so if that's all you're looking for and you don't mind having the cheapest made gun in the category, then the SR9 is for you.

Me thinks the 9E by Ruger is the cheapest one in the category.

Bought it at Al Simmons in Hamilton $549 plus tax

$479 @ Wholesale Sports.

We could have saved you a little bit of money if you had asked for the best price... Not trying to make you feel bad, but it helps to ask questions like that. If your store is local, you saved the shipping cost anyway.

^ and it has good reviews, as does the SR9. Glad I bought my $499 Sig SP2022. I'd consider it before anyone pulls the trigger on other polymer pistol. PGT has 1 left.

The SR9 is highly rated and most people love them. I am sorry that yours for some reason is a cheap piece of junk. Lots of people think that the Glock is very crude, basic and a throwaway gun. Everyone has issues with something. And yes, there is almost always something better that comes along , but where do you draw the line on how much you can afford to spend on one gun ? I have many different guns and the Ruger SR9 is amongst the lower priced ones, but it is not cheap or junk. You want to buy junk and cheap, buy a Hi-Point !! The SR9 is way above that ! IMO

I bought the gun that l wanted to buy, not one that would get approval from everyone else. I don't mind others input, or opinions at all by the way. I have other pistols as well. ie A Glock 17, a Tokarev, and a Stainless steel .45 just to mention three of them.
Al Simmons isn't that far from me, so yes l saved the shipping. Part of the gun purchase for me is going out and looking at them in a store, not just online. I have done the online purchasing thing as well, but l like the thrill of going in and picking up my pistol from the store. I have seen them cheaper online, but then there's shipping that l have to pay, which brings the price closer to what l paid. There's always better, and there's always worse too, but l enjoy the guns that l buy. There's other guns on my list to buy as well.
And l just got home with it about an hour ago, and l'm not disappointed with my purchase.
Cheers everyone. And thanks for replying :)
