Well I picked up my new stainless GP 100 today. Transfer went through in one day and arrived three days later from P&D Enterprises out of Edmonton. Great service thanks P&D. Price $725 + taxes & shipping.
The gun comes with the usual Manual, a cylinder based lock for transporting and a test .357 Magnu case. The Ruger Pistol Box is a compact polymer case great for shipping to customer but useless if you were to use the cylinder lock. I won't as I prefer trigger locks.
Fit and finish were a surprise. No tool marks that I have seen on other Rugers. The stainless surface was nicely polished. No issue there. The rubber grips are tacky and fit my hand perfectly.
The DA trigger pull is heavy but smooth. The SA pull was much lighter and crisp.
I took it to the range. First up was to sight the gun in. Initial settings had the gun shooting high left. It took a few rounds to get the sights centered. My regular screw driver worked on the top adjustment screw but have either a very thin screwdriver to adjust the windage screw or a sharp knife. The screw slot for windage is very small & thin.
I fired 156 rounds through the gun. From a rest I managed a 1.25" group at 25 yards using my load of 3.5 gr of Clays under my 160 gr LRN boolit. This load makes PF of 130 out of the gun. Interestingly the average velocity out of the 4.2" Ruger was identical tp that achieved out of my 6" S&W K-38. 25 yards from a rest I managed a 1.5" group measrued center to center. Avg vel of 827fps with a SD of only 9.
At 15 yards shooting rapid fire freestyle at our Down Zero plates had them all swinging nicely. When I went over to weak hand freestyle and unsuported the heavy DA pull came into play. This winter I will change out the springs to get the DA trigger pull down to a more manageable level.
Overall my impression is this gun is a keeper. Built strong like you would expect from a Ruger I suspect this gun will give me years of quality shooting.
I intend to mate the gun with a Bladetech holster and speedloader holders with Buffer Technologies Jetloader Speedloaders, all just ordered.
All in all for those interested in shooting IDPA SSR Division this is gun will do the trick.
Take Care
Bob
