Looking at a super redhawk in a 44 mag or a 454 Casull looking for a thumper to scope up and play with at 100 yards with.

What would be the most logical choice?? I am leaning toward the Casull!

Depends on how powerful you want to go and whether you reload. It is really a matter of personal choice, and you probably want to reload for either one...if you are stuck with factory ammo 44 mag will be cheaper to buy. IMO the 454Casull gun is a much more versatile platform that you can load from really light to really heavy. 44 mag will shoot 44 spec/44 mag and the 454 will shoot 45colt/454 Casull
The 454 Casull has at least twice the recoil as the 44 mag but is at least twice the fun :) I chose the 454 and BTW I can hit a 8X11 target at 100m offhand with the iron sights....or at least scare the snot out of it evey shot ;)
Cheers

.460 hands down.........then choose your poison...45 454 or 460. Unless the weight of the xframe gets you down, nothing I've used so far (other than 50BMG) goes boom like the 300gr 460. :)

afaik, only the x frame smith comes in 460- about 1500 bucks the last time i looked- but it's certainly much more versatile than the 500, and the bullets aren't as near expensive or hard to come by-- but the real question in canada unless you have a wilderness atc is- how dead can you kill a piece of paper?

I have a 2X-6X Bushnell scope that I pop on and off of my 7.5" Ruger SRH 454 Casull.

It is an amazingly accurate combo...

I sight the scope in with either my 240gr or 300gr XTP-Mag loads and shoot my heavy cast loads with the iron sights.

A feature that I really like about the SRH is that they come with scope rings I do not have to remove or add anything to install the scope I just pop it on and tighten the ring screws and when I want it off I just loosen the screws and pop the scope off...

If I had money to burn I would have a 460 S&W but for the cost of the S&W you can get the Ruger SRH and the scope of your choice... :D

I'm not finished yet another cool thing is once you get the 454 Casull also buy a LSI Puma M92 rifle chambered in 454 Casull now you have an excellent fun lever action rifle that shoots the same cartridges as you handgun...

For inexpensive plinking I also shoot 45 Colt's in both my SRH's and the Puma rifle...

This rifle also doubles as a defense gun for me and my wife when we are in the bush.

Here is a pic of my shortened 4.25" SRH in 454 Casull with the stock rings that are supplied with the gun and my Burris EER 1X scope.

I don't have a pic of my 7.5" SRH and my wife is away in Alberta with our digital camera so I can't take a pic of it.

Gunnar @ Armco in Prince George, BC shortened the gun for me and I am thinking of getting him to shorten my 7.5" to 6" which is the longest barrel length he thinks he can put his sight rib on.

He is a dealer here on CGNTZ also he replaced my front sight with a fiber optic .332" height which I feel is the best hieght for the SRH's.

thank you :D

Since we're in a sharing mood here is mine, I really like the 5.5" barrel, a good balance for me and keeps most of the velocity of the 7.5" :)
The other thing I like about the SRH is that it is a 6 round cylinder!
Cheers
