Ruger Vaquero won't ####

So i purchased a brand new Ruger Vaquero in 45LC this past summer, I've fired it probably 20 times. Last week I bought some snap caps to practise with it and tonight went to start my routine and it won't #### more then 3/4's of the way back, just stops. Cylinder was a little hung up but it started spinning when I opened the loading gate.

Should I call the store tomorrow or call/email Ruger? I've never bought a brand new gun and had it break so not really sure on the procedure for this.

I looked into a couple of threads on other sites but seems it could be a few different things. I'm probably going to take it apart tonight and see if I can identify the problem but I'm no gunsmith.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My advice is call the store where you bought it from and have them send it away to snapshot . I had the same problem and I got a permit to take it back to the local gun store where I purchased it . well they played around with this revolver and so on and then it screwed up for them also . it was sent out and now it works fine . don't say that you took it apart because you could void your warranty. mine would only screw up as in it wouldn't #### every so often . the same as what your saying . nothing is made with the same craftsmanship like it used to be and that's the bottom line .

call the store and tell them it's been sitting in the safe and Mum is the word on taking it apart . get a permit to take it to the store and let them send it out to get it fixed . look it up online . I saw many people had the same problem . I think it took a week to fix and I had it back . I also called the guy at snapshot and spoke to him and he seemed like a decent guy . he also works on firearms for the movie industry if I remember correctly . they are good guns . just get it fixed . let me know what happens .

Store told me I could bring it back to them, but it would be easier and faster to send it directly to snapshots.

I didn't take it apart, perse. Just removed the centre pin and cylinder. I hope this does not void the warranty, otherwise how else would you clean it?

Was also kind of surprised to hear the warranty is only 1 year.

Mine only cocks once every 50 times. I have the broken metal pawl so hopefully its a fairly obvious repair job.

I thought the standard ATT covers taking the gun to a gunsmith for repair? Isn't returning it to the store for shipping for repair the same thing?

And yes I love the gun otherwise. Front sight is a little bent off to the side but it doesn't really affect my aiming. Should I bother mentioning this as well? Maybe its supposed to be like this as in they sighted it in?

No..removing the cylinder pin and cylinder, will not void warranty. As you already mentioned, those parts need to be removed anyway, to clean the revolver. Nor should the front sight be bent to one side. I'd guess someone dropped it on its muzzle. Was it new and still in the box when you purchased it? Or a display model? Regardless, it should still be covered under warranty. When you send the gun to Snapshot, have them repair/replace the front sight, too. Good luck.

I purchased it brand new from the store, albeit I didn't pay attention to closely apparently... Held it for about 10 seconds and then said "I do". You know how it goes.

Thank you for the advice.

No problem , I have those all the time, forgot the wife in town one time, thought it was damn quite in the truck, I was 5 miles out ( she don't read all this gun crap)
Most snap caps I have seen used are crap, I don't dry fire , unless working on a gun, than I use my dummies (ammo that is)
Sorry Marshall....brain seizure. Meant to direct the message to: Slipnslide. Advice remains the same.

Marshall: I've noticed that wives do tend to get a bit sensitive about little things like that, sometimes. Had my share of close calls, too.

Slipnslide: Yup....Been there. Parts fail. It happens. The Ruger Vaquero is a great revolver. Once you get this little problem sorted out, it should give you a lifetime of reliable service. Hopefully, Snapshot has its act together and gets it back in your hands in good time.

Marshall: I think you may be right. I don't believe C 71 has come fully into force yet. So standard conditions may still apply. I agree, though....best to check, first. A call to the CFO's office is in order.

This may be interesting.

Just received this e-mail: The Ontario CFO released a memorandum stating that, quote: "On june 21, 2019 Bill C-71 passed Royal Assent. While there are proposed changes to the transportation conditions of the bill, as of this date the amendments have not been implemented by Order in Council and the conditions remain unchanged."

The Memorandum is dated February 25, 2020.

Slipnslide....it appears you shouldn't need to apply for an ATT to send your Ruger off to either the local gun shop, or Snapshot. Hope this helps.

I suspect other gun clubs across the country will be getting the same memorandum.
