I was being nice.
Just asking practical questions about this rifle's usefulness as a hunting rifle as compared to other Rugers.
.
Very cool. I want one!
So together, what does your scope, rings and mount weigh? What scope, rings and mount are you using?
If it took M14 magazines it would be a bowl of peaches...

Scope is a Leupold Vari-x Compact 2-7x. Not sure of the objective size as it's not marked and I got it used, but I would estimate 28mm to 32mm. Not sure what kind of rings. They were already on the rifle when I got it used, but I'm considering changing them out for lower ones. Mount is a UTG 3 point picatinny with see through channel (for iron sight use). I've never weighed just the scope, rings, and mount, but estimate them at 1 to 1.5lbs.
Which would make it virtually impossible for your M14 to weigh in at 8lbs even with the rubber butt pad mod.... I think your method of weighing the rifle by stepping on a bathroom type scale then subtracting the weight without the rifle is suspect. I think if you weighed just the rifle along with all the accessories and an empty magazine on an accurate scale it would put you in the 91/2 lb range - which is quite average for a scoped M14.
So it has the same issues as an M-14 but at half the weight and the cost? (if you want a non chinese one)![]()
You're saying this rifle weighs in at 4lbs?My M14S weighs 8lbs with scope and sling!

Weighed it your way... directly on the scale. 7.75lbs. By using differential in weight, fixed errors are cancelled out. It provides a closer true weight than directly on the scale. Now even IF, and that would be a big if, the rifle weighs 9.5lbs as you have guessed, my point is still correct. That is the Ruger Scout rifle at 7lbs (w ww.ruger.com/products/gunsiteScoutRifle/models.html) is not even close to half the weight of an M14.![]()
Ya no problem, I understand you have the lightest scoped M14 on the planet. She must be a keeper.![]()
BTW if the Ruger weighs 7lbs without scope, it would be a lot more than half the weight of an M14 with full size scope (average 9½ lbs).
Put an identical scope on the Ruger and it would probably average 8 lbs to 8½ lbs, which would be only 1 - 1½ lbs lighter than the same scoped M14 at 9½ lbs.
