Run-In with "Captain Hunting Rifle."

Rohann,

my brain fart. For some reason I thought you were in the Victoria area as well. I shoot at the North Saanich range, and I guess for some reason when I saw the "N" in your abreviation I assumed the same. DUH!

The "Hat" is the Malahat range (Vic F&G), just south of Mill Bay.

Never had any problems at my range. But I think a friends dad (OPP officer) nearly #### a brick when I pulled out my 7” AR.

It really doesn't say much for the sport when you have so many gun owners out there who don't know even the basics of the firearm laws in this country.
:(

Actually, it says a LOT about the firearms laws themselves that so many people dont know the basics of said laws!!

It says even more that a very large number of police don't know what the firearms laws are and that gun owners are one of the least likely folk to commit any crime.

I get the looks quite often at the range when the "precision" hunters are out for the annual sighting in trips. Oh well they are not making complaints to the exec as I am the president :) but do get the what do you need that for line.

When will they get it - it has NOTHING to do with need :D :D :D

See, that's an excellent point. Technically the "hunter crowd" don't even need their precision rifles. If they were patient enough, they'd be able to wait up in a tree with a big rock to kill their animals. :p

Yup and there will guys with Magnum rocks, high velocity rocks, and wildcat rocks, arguments over which is better, obsidian, granite, quartz, or sedimentary. Not to mention the size vs speed contraversy.
And don't forget the guys with milsurp rocks..

And there will be another group of folks lobbying to ban rocks.

You don't NEED a rock. That's why god gave you hands to strangle deer with.

For sure !!
...everyone feels so much safer, more civilized, and humane without all those rifles out there.
Thinking of that reminds me of the Dawn of Man segment of "2001 a Space Oddyssey"

Hahaha, so true:D. In a small, insignificant way, I hope the stuff hits the fan here, then people will know the value of firearms in the hands of citizens.

Slightly off topic but here goes.

I was taking a few rifles including one of my AR's into the US a few years back. I plopped the case on the counter so that customs could verify it and there was Mr. & Mrs. Joe Six Pack paying the duty on their new barbeque just like all Ned Sanders do-gooders should.

Well, I looked over, smiled and opend the case. If you could have seen the look on those people's faces it would have made you laugh. It was as though The Terminator just arrived. They literally took several steps back and looked at their customs agent as though there was something dreadfully wrong. Absolutely ####in' priceless. God, I love sheeple.

It's also funny to see new 20 something year old hunters at the shooting range with the newest, hottest, most expensive .300 ultra-super-short-overkill-magnum rifle. I've personally seen this happen a number of times: they've never shot the thing before, and they get a cheap scope with little eye relief, and they either
a) can't sight in their rifle because the scope is a piece, or
b) smoke themself in the eye with the first shot and flinch like an abused dog for every shot thereafter.

This is a good point. I see this sort of thing happening all the time here. It also happens a lot in the US with people buying things like the S&W .500 Magnum for plinking. If you've got the money and you know what you're doing, fair enough, but most of them don't seem to know what they're doing. It's a bit like the .44 Magnum rush back when Dirty Harry was popular, and people were buying .44s and firing 6 shots through them and then selling them.

Very true. They always think that since they paid a lot for the rifle, why pay a lot for the scope? It's pretty funny to see sometimes, they flinch like MAD every shot thereafter.
