Where can I find the Barnaul brand? It works the best for me, is accurate and fairly clean burning. I also like the Hornady SST steel cased stuff. The rest I don't care for.

The Prvi brass cased hunting ammo is also exceptional out of my 527, but I've stacked that deep already.

Gentlemen: stack it deep!! We are heading into an uncertain future!!

The Hornady steel case SST has been discontinued. I found a box at the Kamloops gun show and bought it, I didn’t even haggle. Hornady Black appears to have replaced it. Brass case and reloadable.

What a shame. In the SKS, the steel cased Hornady ran so well! For brass cased hunting ammo in my 527, I have been impressed with the Prvi brand, but I will test the Hornady Black at some point. I wonder if Hornady originally sourced the steel cases from Barnaul?

Have you tried MFS RUAG 7.62x39? Brass cased 124 gr. made in Hungary and around $20/box of 20 rounds, FOC,Tenda and SFRC have stock

I agree re the MFS-brand, I have a few hundred of the .223 and they're as good as the Barnaul I bought a few years ago. I also use S&B and PPU in SP, they are accurate too. I shoot these in both my SKS and my Ruger Ranch in x39 - MOA in the Ruger and 'MO-Paint Can' in the SKS. 😉

The reality is that the SKS, at least my '54 Tula, does well with lacquered steel cased ammo only, with Barnaul, the Hornady SST (rip) and MFS zinc-coated cased ammo (as an exception) being the best by far. It destroys my brass ammo, regardless of brand and it doesn't shoot it any better. My CZ 527 shoots the Prvi and Ruag ammotech "target" ammo very well and around MOA. I never shot steel case in my 527.

I am kicking myself for not buying two 500 round cases of Barnaul at a gun show a few years ago. I thought $400 per case was too much, and it was, but now I would happily pay that.

Here is remaining sole supply of x39 ...lol
I am in big trouble!!

Better get a can of Chinese MS at Tenda; add a Brick of 'good' 22LR to get over the $300. I just popped my last can this month, but have a few hundred of 'other flavours' , too. I may be doing some 'canning' soon, too.

Yes, the Chinese IS corrosive, but I run hot water thru the SKS barrel and gas tube, then clean as usual. It's a bit more 'Carbon dirty' than the 'good stuff' but for 35c + tax is better than Norinco for 65c / round. An extra 5 min for cleaning. I have some Non-C but save that in case I want to hunt, they're mostly SP-125s. Got a couple hundred of those.
