Wow! These were on sale at Hougens in Whitehorse for150.00 on Black Friday. I bought one and stripped of the cosmoline and was so happy with the result I ran back and bought another one. Interestingly the second one was less pretty when cleaned up but ended up shooting a little bit better. Average around 4 MOA with pretty and 3 MOA with less pretty and Hornady SST ammo. Chinese surplus is a bit less precise, corrosive and 500.00 less per thousand rounds. It's Chinese for me! With the sights and 53 year old eyes this level of accuracy is fine by me. Wouldn't be surprised if 25 year old me could have shaved off an MOA.

I have started hating reloading.... very tedious to make 100 rounds. Now I can shoot 100 rounds for 15.00 and the 10 minutes of rifle cleaning the corrosive ammo out of all the bits and pieces beats the 2-3 hours of reloading any day. I also love the retro- Soviet cool. Big fan!

Glad you're liking the SKS. They're a lot of fun.

I sold my shooter SKS and my unissued SKS sits in its box still in its cosmoline. Will need to pull that one out and start shooting it soon.

I got one of the 150.00 Black Friday SKS's as so did a buddy of mine! Great deal, ran 60 rounds of corrosive Czech ammo through it to test it out, did not miss a beat! Very Happy!

! have to admit these little rifles have really impressed me! So much fun...and at 200 rounds expended not a hint of an issue. low recoil and low cost. My 90 pound 11 year old loves shooting them. Nice to see the Yukon contingent out and thanks for embedding the video as well.

I like that store, bought myself an SVT-40 a few years back while on vacation. Great people, the guy even let me into the back to hand pick the one I wanted.

Kurgan good point, may be why I did not stop at one. Bought the first one and in a few months had several, enjoy shooting them.

I bought a Russian SKS with a laminate stock about a year ago , it is a very tough rifle for very little money.....I might even buy another for a camp gun....

If it weren't so hard getting the damned ammo to my neck of the woods, I'd have at least 2 of these bad boys by now...and a few crates of ammo to boot!

Anybody have success getting ammo sent to an isolated community only accessible by twin otter in the winter?

i spent a lot of years in isolated communities. Best luck I had was bringing ammo up as a passenger in my luggage.

I would suggest you drop a line to CanadaAmmo (sponsor at the top). If it can be done they will make it happen.

If you have mail access in your remote community, I can't see why you can't have ammo shipped. Even if it is smaller quantities. BTW, these days I wish I were living in a remote community. Ontario is a freak'in rat race!
