Russian SKS45 long thread.

yeah, looks like i missed out, i sent an email last night when the dealer announcement had 1 view. they tell me today all they have left is refurbs. and why does epps want the name of the gun club you belong to?

same story at frontier, a dec 21, 2007 hand select pre-order wasn't early enough to get anything other than a refurb.

maybe it is a sign that i am not meant to have a russian sks. or maybe that i should stop in at milarm and see the refurbs for myself instead of paying the hand select price.

ah well, such is life. guess i will stick with my yugo M59.

If you are looking for a piece to hang on the wall, or store in the safe, you might want to pick that out yourself. The condition of some of the shooter-grades have been comparable (and sometimes better) than the hand-selects. A dealer like Frontier would do their best, but essentially, they are trying to package up and ship several hundred guns to customers in great need. :D They wouldn't have the time to completely inspect each gun like a collector would want to. My thoughts anyway...

Might as well buy from everyone and see what you get!

i've got a case of mixed norinco 7.62x39.
i've got silver(lead core it says on box)
silver(just says steel case non corrosive)box
green box
and i believe yellow box.

is all this stuff truly non corrosive?

also, the yugo. 15 rnds to a box from century,is it corrosive?

thanks in advance

Got mine from Frontier. 1954 Tula, looks unfired, all matching (stock and gas tube are forced match). Birch stock. Wood is excellent. Delivered by DHL without ammo (that they were supposed to deliver too). Shooters grade, not hand select. I am starting to think that whoever was in charge of "hand-selecting" had a day off when these were shipped.

Rifle looks perfect except for the gas tube. I dont know WTF is up with that. Will take it off and re-blue myself. It cant look any worse, so why not.

The Silverbox is truly non-corrosive. The green box most likely is and I have no clue on the yellow box. The Yugo ammo is quite corrosive.

Did it come with a sling and oil bottle?
I got my shipping notice today.

Yuck indeed! was it painted initially or blued?

Well my gas tube looks nicer, so I whouldn't whine about the transport-caused scratch on the wood...

No pic yet folks, sorry. Pretty average Russian SKS, and I'm quite happy with it! 1953 Tula.

Has any-one that ordered a rifle and a case of ammo and received their SKS via Canada Post ever received their ammo yet.

Got my sks today (I'll have pics later people dont freak) and it came CP, reciet had a note with it saying that due to a change in regulations the ammo could not be sent, and the value was credited to my card. Also says the ammo would be shipped when the issue is resolved.

I GOT IT..PICS TOMOROW HOPEFULLY.

It's a 1955/56 tula, top cover has no markings other than the refurb mark, but it's got the star on the left of the reviever. Magazine is force matched, gas tube electro penciled, stock is on it's 3rd rifle. I cant really tell if the stock is laminate, dosnt look to be but Im not sure. Havent checked the bore as the pin job needs work before I can lock the bolt open and its hard to hold the rifle with the bolt open and a bore light.

I have to say I'm very pleased with the rifle and it's condition. (shooter grade) Came with sling, ammo pouch, cleaning kit, oil bottle pouch, but no oil bottle..unless it's hidden in the rifle somewhere.

Only thing a tad disapointing is my ammo was not shipped. I was refunded but I'll have to email marlin to see about getting some ammo.

Otherwise quite pleased. This was my xmas gift from my GF. She likes it too. She wants to know if you guys think it shot anyone lol.

It came with a sling (brand new), ammo pouch, cleaning kit, some other kind of pouch and 2 stripper clips. No oil bottle. Dont care, not like i would use that oil bottle anyways. Besides, i think its the same as standart issue AK oil bottles, which retail for about $0.50-2.00 each in the States, depending on condition.

Not sure. I think it was originally blued, but this particular gas tube might've been painted by the refurbisher. What i dont understand is why would they replace a gas tube (to one that looks so terrible) on a rifle that is unfired?

Laminate stocks cost $20 more than shooters grade.

It will be interesting to find out about the ammo, I did not pay by CCard, so I can not be credited. Email was sent, I will find out more when Marlin gets back to me.

Nice to have the rifle, but it is tough to use with out the ammo.
