Russian SKS45 long thread.

Everyone's well aware of their age. People are free to b*tch if they want, it's a freedom they're entitled to. If you are upset because people would like to have a better product, this is not the thread for you.

We've read similar posts before. I'm sure we don't need another parrot :)

I am all for another Parrot, but it should come with a Pirate Wench!

how do you tell a collector's SKS as opposed to a refurbished SKS

This thread has some good info for you...http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298930

As far as a collector goes...I believe that they are looking for the following...

1. Overall Condition
2. Original Matching Components (instead of forced matching like electro pencilling etc...)
3. Some of the rare items (for example the "gold bayonet")

Essentially, we have seen pretty much a crapshoot from these shipments. Someone could walk into a store and walk out with an original unfired matching rifle and take it to the range the next day. In the same breath, the same buyer could walk away with a force matched refurbished rifle and never know the difference. Both rifles probably came to the store in the same crate.

my 2 cents...but I am not an expert. Curtton or another collector would probably weigh in with their opinion.

Sir/cabelas canada update
i just got off the phone with sir and they said the frist 400 rifle should be here in a few weeks
but due to the new supplier they are going to have charge more for a rifle
$240 with rifle bayonete
$220 without bayonete
so they said they are going to call all first 400 or so on the list and ask them if they still want the rifle. the man make it very clear that these are new rifle are in alot better contiton the the past order and he said there worth money
so im keepping mine

LOL...so much speculation. I called this morning as well, and the girl I spoke with said that the rifles are selling for $214.00, as Curtton has posted earlier. She didn't mention anything about the bayonet etc...nor the price increase on the original shipment (I have one on order from the original offer).

It's hard to know what to believe...

Here are my 2 babies... The top one is an Izhvensk arsenal (dark wood) and the bottom a Tula arsenal. Both were 229$ a piece, but the Tula is in a much rougher external condition than the Izzy (especially the wood). It seems like the manufacturing standard varies between the two arsenals (I noticed the same thing with my Mosin-Nagant rifles - Tulas are like some sort of a "last ditch rifle" in comparison).

Anyway, you can't ask for any better for this price. I'm a very happy camper with these two. Inside, both look like they're new/unfired and they have matching serial numbers all over except for the stock, which is re-numbered to match (serials on metal parts are not electro-pencilled and not restamped) :)

Oh and by the way... the little cleaning kit in the cylindrical metal casing is made to fit in the buttstock.

There's actually a big spring lodged inside the buttstock that will push it back out through the trap door when you need to access it (pretty ingenious, lol!). I figure some people might've not noticed this, so there's a little 411 for you.

Now go try that sucker at the range and don't forget to clean the bore afterwards! The included iron curtain cleaning kit works quite well... :D

NICE Rifles. Where did you buy them from?

They told me they are $214, two grades and that there are some Chinese ones coming in the future as well.

:mad:So there was no point in holding out for the the mythical $165 SIR sks..

I probably could have got something decent locally (al simmons in hamilton), but who knows what's left.

EPPS: Ellwood Epps got a second shipment? Are they IZH or Bell's? That would been alot easier for me than ordering from Wolvering in Manitoba! DAMN

ARRRRGGGG my rifle was on my doorstep today in the hands of a CP driver! I wrote a note saying leave it on the doorstep, but he didn't. Damn signatures!

SOOOO CLOSE

Unless they got more sometime today, they are sold out. Their stock was gone in about 30 minutes this morning. A few pages back you will find the culprit that grabbed the last three rifles (2 unissued) from them. They were IZH's.

yeah, looks like i missed out, i sent an email last night when the dealer announcement had 1 view. they tell me today all they have left is refurbs. and why does epps want the name of the gun club you belong to?

same story at frontier, a dec 21, 2007 hand select pre-order wasn't early enough to get anything other than a refurb.

maybe it is a sign that i am not meant to have a russian sks. or maybe that i should stop in at milarm and see the refurbs for myself instead of paying the hand select price.

ah well, such is life. guess i will stick with my yugo M59.
