Russian SKS45 long thread.

Just got mine yesterday. black paint on all the metal except for the bayonet blade and the rear stock is force matched- which would have been OK except the front handguard wood is completely different. I'd give it a 7 relative to a Russian I bought about 10 years ago which is a 10, and a Chinese hand picked out of a shipment of 10 which is a 9. For $200 I think it's fair value- but it'll definitely be a shooter rather than a collector piece.

Got mine yesterday as well.
150 Tula , forced match stock. It's in pretty good shape for a $200 gun. Definitely a shooter though.

Picked it up from the Post Office just after they had closed.
The lady guessed it was a gun and said "I should have known it was for me!" LOL!
She also gave me crap for getting her husband back in to guns!
Says I have cost her a fortune! LOL!

Well SIR called this morning to let me know my excellent condition unissued SKS was there if I wanted it.Hopefully it is not to much of a piece of crap but for $199 it should be ok for a shooter!

I doubt they have got more in yet, it is probably a return from one of us.

Got back into town today after a brief absence and had my neighbour show up moments later straining to deliver a crate of 7.62 that UPS kindly left on my (urban) front porch. Apparently there's no signature requirement for basic UPS ground... Sigh. Then checked my voice-mail to find a message from same (SIR) asking me to call with my PAL so they could process my SKS transfer (ummm... so you sold me ammo w/out my PAL... ?). Of course they had the info as provided and confirmed at least twice, but had goofed in the comms with the CFC - just is probably just as well or the carbines would have been on the porch with the ammo. I'll be so glad when this is over (which may include having to flip a POS Bell refurb on the EE...)

Well, you do not have to even load them to fight off an intruder, just stab them with the bayonet, for it will make a good sword if nothing else.... Can you get charged with the careless use of a firearm if you use it as a sword?

I think someone did the other night in Calgary for robbing and beating someone with the butt end of a rifle.... I cant find a link to the story now though.

finally got my sks from sir. 51 tula refurb some wood repairs on the forestock and some dings and scratches. some oil on it but no thick build up anywhere. painted bolt and carrier but the extractor and firing pin are still bright

can't wait to shoot it

backorderd

hey Niscola were you on the back ordered list cause I am and I m wondering if hell has frozen over and maybe I'll get the call what are the odds of getting a real nice Russky now I'M not a collector .

SIR has two more to sell. I refused their offer to buy two rifles at the $30 increased price over what they originally advertised, when they told me on the phone that the original "Russian" Type 56 rifles were really Chinese.

I can't tell if they are sleazy or just ignorant.

But I did want a "shooter" grade Russian. I have a Norinco with a peep sight on it that works very well. I have a scope base cover for a SKS so another rifle is called for. I bought a pair of Frontier rifles, but they turned out to be virgins. Any time I shot a virgin I lived to regret it.

So I called Home Hardware in Yorkton, Sask, and asked them to pick me a nice refrub, preferably all matching. For $199, that is what I got - an all matching refurb. The stock matches the rifle, as does the bolt, extractor and receiver cover. No paint on the un-sprung firing pin.

Shelac is not too bad. I think I will just give a gentle wipe down with some steel wool.

I cannot see any markings on the top of the cover. Either there aren't any, or the paint covers them. But there is a small star stamped on the left of the receiver by the serial number.

There is a wood repair to the forend and two brass pins in the stock. Are these pins a repair or normal?
