Russian SKS45 long thread.

I read most of this thread, and all pages of the SKS thread on talks.guns.ru, and still have a couple of questions:
1. Is there a difference between Tapco T6 & Fusion stocks?
2. If the stock has no bayo cut, can I remove the bayo & fit the stock, or do I also have to saw off the bayo lug from the barrel?
3. Is the rail on Tapco's foregrip made of plastic or metal? I want to put a red dot there. Would it be better to get a replacement gas tube with weaver on it?

TIA.

Lever Gun Made it

At 199 resistance was futile. Laminate, with unpainted bolt.

All serials match, but how do you tell if it is a forced match or not.

jason, pretty russkie you got there. read the SKS FAQ sticky by curtton at the top of the red rifles sub forum. lots of info and great reading. it will tell you much of what you need to know about your sks.

all the sks's at lever arms that i've seen (i've seen a quite a few) had matching numbers on all the steel parts/assemblies.

the only forced match numbers i've seen are those on the stock butt. the original numbers are X'd out and new ones stamped.

I think I'm happy with how mine shoots :D

Tried shooting at 100m but how the hell does anyone actually see where on the target paper they are aiming with open sights at that distance? Maybe my eyes are just bad???

:agree:
SkS is hard to focus @ 100m's with a white paper target. I think it's the front site hood that makes it harder to see. That's why your buddy need biono's will you shoot @ 100m!

For 100 yd shooting at paper, choose a round black target that is 8 inches in diameter. You can find this on the web, it's free to print. Then use a 6 o'clock hold on the front sight.

That way you can seen the target and the front sight. Adjust your front sight for elevation after you shoot a few groups to determine if you are shooting high or low (using the 6 o'clock hold).

Works for me, nearsighted and astigmatic.

Wow just talk to there guy in the sporting goods deparment and he seems like a great guy, plus he even know what he is talking about. He says that there are going to be recieving some in mid june that don't have any black bolt carriers, also bayonets will not be painted black. Couldn't bride him to put one aside for me though.;) I geuss I have to wait tell june.

i agree, the dude in the Hunting Dept at Yorkton is an awesome nice guy. Knows his stuff too. :agree:

Received the SIR call this morning - Lady said they have 200 SKS's to send out - no selection - 60.00 discount - making 199.00 . So surprised that I didn't pay attention to what they were - maybe 1945 Russians in excellent condition. Wouldn't send me more than one.

does anybody know where they got these SKS from ? bell or lever?

I do believe that any 1949 dated all number matching refurbed or not no matter what color the bolt is would cause quite a bidding war here. I know that Norseman,Killercane, and Smartbomb at the very least have also mentioned they'd like one.
