Russian SKS45 long thread.

My guess is that these will be in the same 'shooter grade' variety that Frontier is offering. Some may be pristine but condition will probably vary a little more. Again, your mileage may vary but don't be surprised if you don't get a top of the line high grade rifle.

nope, dont have high expectation for $166. if its the same shooter grade like frontier describe them then im a happy camper.:dancingbanana:

I seriously doubt Frontier is going to be receiving SKS's that are in any better condition than S.I.R.'s. Do some of you honestly think the Russians would sort through their surplus and decide to send the better grade rifles to a person that is placing a smaller order?

S.I.R. is probably dealing with more volume and may be getting them for a lower price (although I doubt that too.) Their stock will most likely have been pulled form the same surplus that Frontier is getting, without special consideration for either.

How much the individual business decides to mark up their product is up to them, but S.I.R. undoubtedly sells a lot more firearms than Frontier in a year (as well as other goods) so they are likely to keep their prices lower to keep their customers happy. Think of these SKS's as a gimmick to get you to buy more 7.62x39mm, reloading supplies, or other items from S.I.R.

I had a Okanagan gunstore employee tell me that the quality of Chinese SKS's they received from their supplier was better than the ones Lever Arms were receiving (I think they got theirs from Bell.) I listened politely but thought "you lying bastard!" In their store there were about a half dozen Chinese SKS's when I was there. When I bought mine from Lever there were several hundred in crates in the back with about a dozen on display out front. Lever did have a run of crappy SKS's through no real fault of their own. What they did have (due to their volume) was a representation of Chi-Com SKS history from the very beginning to the later production runs; with examples from almost every factory mixed unceremoniously throughout the crates.

If there is a premium selection being done of the SKS's in Russia, those rifles are probably being sent to the States anyways where they command a higher price and there is a larger market for them. I think the only time we do well up here collecting pristine milsurps, is when the BATF won't allow certain rifles into the U.S.

it was like leverarms had a hand select charges of $15 to go thru their chinese sks (only allowed 11) , i wouldnt pay it cos there was no garantee i was gonna end up with a better one, i kept going back to look at their display till i found a 1965 factory 26 sitting on their rack, wow , that was exciting.

Next time you are in that situation, ask Blair to take a look for you in the back. He is a cool guy!

The owner (Kin Sun?) let Blair show me the crates in the back when I inquired about buying 20 of them. When I came back later I only bought three, but Blair hand-picked some nice 1965 Factory 26's for me. All the while some dickhead manager was squacking about how they weren't supposed to do that. He shut up after I told him (and Blair confirmed) that the owner had allowed me in the back the previous week. I bought Blair a case of beer to share with his buddies as a gesture of thanks. I got some beauties!

I also had a problem with one of the sks magazines having a broken latch (which I hadn't noticed at purchase) and the Owner replaced it with no charge, and there is supposed to be no warranty on their milsurps.

Some people hate them there, but as long as I avoided that one manager who works there I did alright. I swear he probably costs them more business than he creates!

naaah, not me , i dont hate them ... i do my research first , find what i want , say " i will take that" , pay and walk out.

glad you missed one of the 1965 factory 26 i found , many thanks. :D and they do deserved the red jungle vietnam stock, i have it on mine.

absolutely true, we would not have a chance at getting a real collector grade up here if it wasnt for the US import ban on russian SKS. those american love collecting russian SKS and they would gladly pay .

Not to worry, there were lots left when I was there.:D

I could have bought a case and it wouldn't have even made a dent. I regret now I didn't find the money...:(

I wasn't aware there was a ban on Russian SKS's in the States? I thought it was just on the Chinese ones.

There is list of what is importable into the USA, SKS and SVT-40's are not on it wherever they come from. That is why the ones that came into the USA before the ban are now going for crazy money.

Ah, thanks for the correction, JP. I though country of origin was the regulating factor.

In some cases, that is true and these exceptions are on the list. Chinese and Russian SKS are not importable, but the Albanians made ones were allowed in a few years ago.

I thought type 56 sks's were chinese... Prehaps it could be referring to type 56 "russian sks" as the original design or something? I dunno, but that is fairly cheap. I thought Frontier was relatively cheap and now I see this...

"BATFE must have missed Albania on their list."

No Albania had Preferred Trading Nation Status I believe, so their SKS were allowed in. But production numbers were quite small, so it meant just a few rifles were imported.

i would love to get my hands on one of those albanian sks, they have a unique extra long HG and also they have the AK style cocking handle .

you are correct , type 56 is a chinese sks and the russian sks is known as SKS-45 .

ok, this is what i think happened on SIR site , they had a chinese new sks listed at $165.99 for a very long time even after they ran out , almost a year ago , the ad was still up on the site , i presume people were still trying to place orders online bcos everywhere were also sold out and the price rose to as high as $225 , ofcos it will now soften bcos of SIR.

so when all of a sudden the russian sks were offered to them so they changed the listing but mistakenly left the type 56 and then offered the russian sks to everyone that was on the waiting list for the chinese sks at the same price. a very good offer and a nice way to illiminate backorders.

this info came from a member on that list.

That makes sense. Sweet deal if that's the case
