Russian SKS45 long thread.

There is no rhyme or reason to our gun laws except how "scary" they look. That is why we have the gun laws we have today.

Well I finally have had it. Ammo issues, deliverey issues, cleaning issue...f****it. I cancelled 5 minutes ago. That leaves the little issue a scout mount to sell which I will list undet optics I guess. It the one that fits in the front sight from scout scope mounts. Heading there now. I got it in the U.S. and will sell for same plus shipping.

Got one from a store in Halifax for $230, they still have 5 left. Army Navy store or something like that.
Not a great price, a week before the guy told me he makes $80 on each rifle, so he got them for $150 each.
Crate was $230 too, again not a great price, but there was no waiting for it to arrive.

I'm glad now I picked up three when Lever Arms was selling them for $149, and the crates of 7.62x39mm for $159.

I wanted to buy a crate of Chicom SKS's then (20 rifles) and am kicking myself now that I didn't.

Figured I might as well post this here if anyone is curious.
The SKS I Just Purchased:
Serial Number: 1506###
1957 was when it was made I believe.
Threaded barrel
'106' triangle code
So far every serial number I've found matches. Magazine and receiver. No serial number on the barrel. If there are more serial numbers, I've haven't found them yet.

Is where I've looked everything up.

In halifax buddy, they said they'd ship me one to PEI if I wanted, maybe they'll ship one to BC(?)

2660 Agricola Street
Halifax, NS B3K 4C9
(902) 454-4330

Still in the cosmoline though. And they only had 5 left.
A WTB ad in the EE should net you a barely fired, cleaned(no damn cosmoline), closer to home, SKS.

Sorry if a sponsoring dealer currently has stock, I didn't know.

lone-wolf:

Factory 106 is a second wave factory. For the first 8? or so years after 1956 only Factory 26 was making rifles. The serial number system to find date of manufacture only works with Factory 26. What bayonet is on your rifle, spike or blade?

<snip>

Those that ordered early, can sit back with content knowing they will be the first served....
Those that are entering the fray now, can only hope that some disillusioned or impatient souls will cancel, and the excess will be deferred to them.

Well, I ordered early early, and waited, and waited, and waited. And now another birthday has gone by, and I've cancelled the order. Sure, it's only $165 bucks, but I could be dead before the sum##### gets here.

Bought a CZ-858 in the meantime - fun rifle to shoot, uses the same milsurp ammo, and doubtless has its own set of challenges.

Good luck to you "entering the fray" now.

I was hoping to shoot my SKS over the summer. Well, that's gone now. I guess it's main benefit would be to hopefully grandfather me into the semi-auto centerfire class IF the liberals ever get their grubby hands on the controls again.

I just got off the phone with S.I.R./Cabela's, and the fellow I talked to said the date for the first shipment is still set for the end of September.

So far, so good. At least it hasn't been bumped back again......yet.
