Russian SKS45 long thread.

Just unpacked my refurb from Val's favorite toy store. I'm impressed with it. It's a side rail star Tula with a EPd mag and double Xd out renumbered stock. Other than that looks brand new,with no refurb marks. Not much to clean on it either I must say. Should be a good shooter.

im not quite sure , still researching it but so far from what i have gathered is its a thin film coating(not sure what), sealing will improve corrosion resistance and also act as a primer should they wanted to paint.

not sure why some turn to gold and some dont or if its originally gold colour and then some fad.

however i like the golden looks , i wouldnt remove it .

1954R IZH arrived today. Triangle instead of star. Which is more common?
Gas tube has been forced matched. Stock has 2 serial numbers Xed out
Trigger is matching, but the mag was re-stamped, and old one lined out. Not a bad deal for $229 shipped.

maybe counterbored? Counterboring was a common practice with the Russians and a few other European countries.

Nope , there no factory stamp. ( Hence I'm guessing Tula)The only number that doesnt match is the one described on the bottom of the mag cover.

The serial on the gas tube is electro penciled! So it could also be new.
Everything else matches.

very interesting , i wouldnt say yours is a 1955/56 bcos there is no small star on the left side of receiver ... . from here on, we need to see close up pics . left side of receiver (early or late russian? ), gas block , trigger guard and so on.

Actualy the stock look like a refurb too. Theres a bunch of Xs on the side . I didnt pay too much attention at first but on closer look you can see numbers underneath.

I got 2 lines, again I'm just guessing but this might the third rifle that particular stock is on.

I'm starting to think I got an older rifle and the receiver cover was replaced and they didnt bother to restamp the date/factory marking.

Yes, gonna try to work on some pics. Got a web cam lying around somewhere. Its a cheap one so pics probably wont be that great.

My DHL tracking number tells me that my shipment is still in Regina and that is Undeliverable!!!!!!! WTF? Says shipped Jan 19.

I called frontier, they shipped my babies, but now DHL is making my life hell...

any ideas?? or I should get anti-depressant pills?

Unless something happens and he doesn't get any(wouldn't that be a #####!) yea I'm going to wait. The fact I'll get to hold the rifle before actually buying it is good incentive, and I want to make sure I get a good looking IZH rifle.
What the price will be worries me though :confused:
 
So I got my ammo today, but they don't know where my gun is.... Nice, eh? So they are going to search for it. I am so happy right now.... Grrrrr. Why couldn't it be the ammo I was waiting for. What crap!!!

I did have to go find him, he wouldn't get out of the truck because of the dogs so I hunted him down.... Lol, I don't mess around. lol. I want my stuff... And only my ammo, didn't I predict this.... Maybe I am psychic... Don't worry, I am totally kidding, I just have bad luck. It'll probly be an ugly non-matching refurb the way this is going....

Don't say that, you're hurting multiple SKS' feelings. All guns are equal. They all deserve our TLC.
