Russian svt 40 problems.

Hi.

Just recently bought a 1940 Russian svt 40 from a local gun store. Problem is the tip of the bullet gets stuck on the rim of the chamber preventing the bolt/bolt carrier from moving forward. I cleaned the magazine, lubricated it with the same result. The mag doesn't wobble, stays secure in the gun. Using serbian made NON corrosive ammo. Thoughts?

I had too remove the rivet pinning my magazine in order to remove the follower and do a proper cleaning, and then replaced the rivet.

Check too make sure spring is in good order and the mag floor plate is secure too.
 
This happens when you load one round as well as many?
You sure you're stacking the rims properly?
I've never had this issue but, I would think that a light sand/polish of the feed ramp is in order.

The SVT-40 is one hell of a gun once you get it running right.
 
Well feeding issues have been resolved for the most part. The cartridges like to get stuck in the bolt carrier upon ejection. I assume this can be remedied by adjusting the gas system?

adjust your gas setting,
i have mine on one of my 3 rifle on 1.3 and it runs great (the other 2 guns are safe queens)

Mine did that too. I just turned the gas setting a bit and now runs perfect. Everybody that has shot it is impressed. Loudest gun I own. My ross is still the most accurate.
 
If you don't have the tool, you have too tear down the rifle, use a wrench to remove the gas tube nozzle (I don't know the actual part name). Tap the adjuster out and then reposition it in a new setting.
 
Done and done, appreciate the help. I set the svt to 1.5 so now in theory it will eject the cartridges problem free?. Previous setting was 1.3 and the rifle did not like 180 grain bullets. lot of them catching on the bolt carrier upon ejection.
 
I would do a slight file job on the bottom of the lip of the chamber just above the feed ramp area.

I mean SLIGHT lol maybe a 2mm half round file just a couple passes to make a slight groove.

The lips of the mag could be bent as well.

Also what type of ammunition are you running? SVT 40 designed to be used with FMJ 147 gr surplus projectile (full jacketed tip) Comrade! ;)

i feed 203g sp mfs ammo through my svt and it eats it like candy
