I have some 7.62x54 russian tracer and was wondering if anyone could tell me what its worth. I don't have a rifle chambered for this and was thinking of getting rid of it. Thanks.

Regular surplus 54r goes between .40 -.60/round, commerical grade is closer to $1.00 / round. Ive never seen 54r tracer before so I dont really know.
However, Ive seen 7.62x39 tracer go for $1.00 a round before. So I would imagine you could get around the same?

No, $1 a round is a perfectly reasonable price for tracer.
Regular milsurp ball will go $0.50 each.
Was it selling at that price? That stuff is a lot more common than 7.62x54R tracer.
You're assuming he shoots at a range.
As for tracer ammo I think it's a waste of money for what it goes for. A novelty at best.
Uh huh... I am sure every single one of his potential buyers shoot only at places that prohibit the discharge of tracer ammunition. My bad for not being more clear with my comment I guess.

Last I saw 7.62x39 tracer, it was 350$ per crate I think. A little far off the 1$ a round that Im hearing in this thread.

Incorrect. It was pulled because the Explosives Act/Regulations only permits "safety cartridges" to be imported, sold, and possessed, and tracer ammo contains a pyrotechnic element which falls outside the definition of a safety cartridge. By this default, all tracer ammunition is not legal.
Had a big argument about this in another thread by what I thought were otherwise learned people when it comes to legal matters (or so they like you to think anyhow). It's in black and white in the Explosives Act and Regulations and it doesn't take a lawyer to read it, and furthermore the inspector in charge of importation at the Explosives Regulatory Division in Ottawa told me this face to face when I met with them earlier this year on other matters. I asked specifically because people here had asked me to, then they jumped on me when I delivered the news. I guess some people like to selectively bury their heads in the sand when they hear something they don't like, then shoot the messenger because it's the most convenient.
It should be noted that this is NOT the same as the prohibition order banning flechette/incendiary/explosive/AP pistol cartridges; that falls under the Firearms Act and is a completely separate piece of legislation. You could not be charged for possessing tracer bullets under that section.

I don't see why anyone would want tracers. They're useless unless you're shooting full auto.
- Most MG belts are 4B1T (unless the fire index in the template prohibits tracer that day...).
- But: tracer is used for other things, including target indication:
"Watch my tracer!!"
