Rusty Rifle

Right... because that has nothing to do with the fact that they are the most popular... and look at the prices... what does that tell you....

Lower level rem's as with many lower end firearms will rust... just use remoil or your rust preventative of choise and keep 'em oiled up.... problem solved

they are popular yes, and cheap but alot of ppl sell them cuz thier not happy with them. great starter guns dont get me wrong. i may have been a lil hard headed my last post but ive had, seen and heard all sorts of issues remington time and time again. rust being a big one.

I had a mossberg 535ats that I forgot in a soaked foam guncase over night. The barrel rusted and even pitted a lil the reciever not even a water mark.

Any steel will rust if exposed to being basically wrapped in what ammounts to a warm wet sponge overnight. The receiver didn't rust because it's aluminum.

I'd like to know how they managed to do that. Hammer forged barrels are formed around a mandrel, with the inside and outside dimensions being formed at the same time. The length doubles during the process. They would have had to use a blank mandrel.

The same thing happened to me with a Savage 93/17 I bought a few years ago. I went to sight it in and all the bullets were keyholing with a shotgun pattern.Sure nuff- no rifling.

I have an express with a poor finish ....

it's the matte bead blasted looking finish ( purchased in early 2000), i was thinking of removing the bluing steel wool and refinish. Question, would standard bluing like brownells work - or do you have to re parkerize ?

Savage barrels are button rifled, so I can at least conceive how that step could be missed.

Remington centerfire barrels are hammerforged out of a chunk of steel that doesn't even look like a barrel until its done. It wouldn't be a matter of forgetting to rifle it, they would have to forget to make it or make it with a blank mandrel. It would take a weird sense of humor and an accomplice to pull that off.
