I recently picked up a Winchester Model 94 CANADIAN PACIFIC CENTENNIAL to sell for a friend. The rifle complete with display case had been stored in a damp basement for several weeks.:( The side of the rifle that was against the material has considerable damage. The receiver, lever and barrel all have rust on them. Does anyone have any ideas on saving this piece. It has been striped and cleaned and oiled. The bill of sale from 1982 says the rifle cost Two Thousand dollars. I would ask that anyone replying please refrain from commenting on the wisdom of the owner. I would also appreciate any ideas.

Thanks

Unfortunately, the value has dropped considerably due to the rust, and any efforts to restore the rifle would be somewhat of a waste as the value of the rifle refinished is also diminished. Rebluing it may be an option if it is an heirloom piece with sentimental value, otherwise, I'd say make it a shooter.

If it was only a few weeks, it's likely not pitted to any degree. 0000 steel wool and oil will take off the rust without bothering any finish that's left. Faster using a light touch with a fine, brass, wire wheel in a bench grinder. Eye protection is mandatory.
A regular CP Rail Commemorative came in .32 Win Special. 2700 made. Should have a Engraved pewter plated receiver, medallion in stock with a 24" round barrel. Worth about $645, Stateside.
There was also an "Employees" model. 2,000 made. Same rifle but the S/N starts with a 'CP'. Only sold to active and retired employees of the CPRR. Worth about $750, Stateside.
Commemorative's only have collector value if they're still sealed in the original box. Otherwise, they're worth the same as any other Win 94. Investment pieces they ain't.
