Well, got to fire a 500 Magnum for the first time. The big Smith and Wesson revolver fired straight back into my hand not trying to flip my wrist up too much. I was surprised, I was expecting a sore wrist after a cylinder and got a sore hand pad instead. Shows how well the gun is designed or that load would fly up and break wrists.

Now for .50 BMG.

The 460 & 500 are surprisingly easy to shoot: yes more recoil than others but nowhere near uncomfortable. My 2.5" .44Mag is brutal compared to these two.

My shooting buddy has a 460 with a scope. I hate shooting 460 with it. 454 and 45LC no problems.

Just me I guess. I'll shoot 45ACP in 1911's for hours.

That's what the muzzle brake is for.

I was offered the chance to shoot one yesterday,I passed, my wife had the chance a couple of weeks ago,, she loved it lol. I'm not a big fan of recoil :)

If you had shot the 500 BEFORE the match, you might not have done so well! LOL!

I’m glad your wife got to try it once. It’s not as bad as you think. The long barrel, brake and heavy gun tames the recoil quite nicely.
Not something you want to shoot a lot of though as it will really help you develop a flinch!

Loaded lightly (300gr Bullet at 1100 FPS) these are actually really fun to shoot at 200 yards... for the entire afternoon.
I had a buddy out with mine a while back and he was surprised at how easy it was to shoot... Then (and I was nice and warned him) I loaded up a heavy 500 gr load that does a little better than 1500Fps... He held onto the gun, but its enough to make you say WOW!
Lol, they are a fun gun, if you get a chance to shoot one, take it, they are not man killers, just hold on and enjoy the ride.

They're a blast :p

Crap! Looks like it melted your arms!!

Crappy cell phone pic LOL.

Bfr in 45-70 was way more of a kick in the balls.

So does a .44 Magnum shooting Buffalo Bore +P+ ammo; I don't own one a S&W500, but have shot 'em a few times now - as mentioned above, really not all that bad with factory ammo. Again comparatively speaking lol.

I shot 2" (or something like that) in .44 with ridiculous hand loads and I couldn't feel my hand after. Nope I'm not a fan of these mini howitzers.

I've had an 8 3/8" S&W for about six years now. Hot loads, light loads, cast bullets and jacketed, they all shoot GREAT!! I'd post a photo but with the recent :mad: 'difficulties' experienced with photobucket, I'm unable to do so at this point in time. Perhaps when I make other photo posting arrangements. I have access to a wide variety of cast bullets I get from a friend locally. Those, with the jacketed available on the market, again, all shoot great. Lighter loads in roughly 900 - 1100 f/sec range are a pleasure for plinking or any amount of sustained 'paper punching'. However, ;) once you start pushing them out in the 1300 - 1700 f/sec range, you soon find out the calibre and handgun model in question, has the ability to inflict PAIN, at BOTH ends!! The Hogue type rubber grips it came with don't help. I had a set of Jordan Trooper stocks by Herritt's for an N-frame S&W that I adapted to fit my 500 and that made for a significant improvement in dealing with the recoil of hot loads with heavy bullets. Again, :( no ability to post photos on site at this time but if you're interested, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a photo that way.
