Ummm.... not true. The Black Dog drums are ok because they never advertised that they fit the pistols, only the rifles. The S&W mags all have to be pinned to 10 because their pistol version also used them.

It's the same as the 10-22s. The Ruger 25 round mags are prohibited because those were also made for the Charger, but the Butler Creek/Shooter's Ridge mags are fine in 25 rounds because they were never advertised as being made for the Charger.

Remember that it's not what the mag fits, it's what the mag was intended for that counts (LAR-15 mags anyone?).

Interested. This rifle was more fun with more than 10 rounds and drums aren't for me.

I expect that letter to be returned saying prohibited because of the way it is worded

I got a fast, and useless answer, I guess I will have to phone a technician. See below:

Thank you for your correspondence.

Following is the magazine capacity restrictions for all classes of
firearms as set out by the Criminal Code of Canada.

LONG GUNS

With one popular exception; all centerfire, semi-automatic long guns
have a magazine restriction of five shots. This includes both shotguns
and rifles. The exception to this rule is the M1 Garand, which has an
eight shot magazine. This exception is due to the internal, top-fed
magazine in the M1. It would not be feasible to require this magazine be
pinned, so an exception was created. Firearms that have a magazine
capacity greater than five rounds must have their magazine pinned or
altered to only allow five rounds (again with one exception, the M1
Garand).

This five shot restriction does not include pump, lever or bolt action
firearms. It also does not include rimfire ammunition.

Rimfire ammunition, for the most part, is more commonly known as 22 LR,
22 MAG and 17 HMR. There is no restriction on the number of shots a
firearm can have in these three caliber's.

HANDGUNS

Handguns have a magazine capacity limit of ten rounds. This includes
both centerfire and rimfire ammunition. Firearms that have a magazine
capacity greater than ten rounds must have their magazines pinned to
allow only ten rounds.

In summation:

Semi-automatic long guns: 5 Shots except the M1Garand and no shot
restrictions on 22LR, 22 Mag and 17 HMR.

Semi-automatic handguns: 10 shots, no exceptions!

I talked to a technician today. I was told that the Plinker Tactical must be pinned to 10 rounds. I found it strange that my question was answered instantly, no questions, no time to look anything up - either the technician is very familar with these magazines, or they just always give this answer to any magazine question. Anyway I think this is a dead end.
 
Ask the seller who imports the magazine and sells it. Most of them will have a written letter and will willingly provide you a copy of it.
 
Getting a bit off topic here, but why is the S&W M&P 15-22 a restricted firearm? I mean it's a .22 LR and barrel is longer than 18". What makes this restricted and not the other tactical .22 AR's like a Ruger SR-22 or an ISSC MK22 Scar for example? Excuse my ignorance but someone please explain. I was really interested in this gun till I found out it was restricted, so I just went with a Ruger 10/22.

Nonsense. It is a 10-22 that is in a shell that slight resembles an ar15 and that is only after you spend hundreds of dollars making it look like one. The function is not even remotely similar. Therefore not a variant.

The smith is a variant by looks, but it also has controls similar to an ar15, but does not function like one at all
