S&W M&P 15 Sport II or Norinco CQA

Just looking at some budget AR's Mainly Smith & Wesson M&P Sport 2 and tha Norinco CQA. I also notced S&W has a M&P 15 MOE for about $300 more labelled as a 5.56 Nato with a 1:8 twist rate. I am a little confused as to the the calibre of these rifles and the twist rates. The S&W Sport 2 is listed as a .223 with a 1:9 twist rate.and the Norinco is listed as a 5.56 Nato. However I am unable to find any info on the twist rate of the Norinco.. Now I know that the rounds are similar and that the 5.56 Hato will also chamber .223 but not the other way around. Correct me if I am wrong. Presently I am leaning towards a 5.56 Nato and the S&W M&P 15. Wondering if this is a non issue. The prices are basically the same. and I think the M&&P would have a better finish quality. Mainly interested in getting the best bang for my buck, ammo and accuracy wise. Also, to be versatlie as far as ammo goes for both calibres and different weight ammo. If anyone could recommend other AR 15 options that would be greatly appreciated
 
I have a sport 2 and it says 5.56 on the barrel and 1:9 twist.

Get the m&p go to the range and enjoy life , IMO best bang for the buck
 
PSA from irunguns would be a solid choice too.
Note that PSA puts phosphate finished and nitride barrels on otherwise similar configs. Theoretically, PSA nitride 4150V is better than 4140 on S&W, but for an average user the difference should be negligible.
 
The M&P 15 MOE has 1:8 twist and 5R rifling as well as Magpul furniture and a couple of other changes. If you don’t care about the 5R and slightly different twist rate you can add the Magpul furniture for @$150. The Sport II is 5.56 which means it can handle the higher pressures of 5.56 NATO but can also shoot .223. With a .223 rifle one should stick with .223 ammo.

Most deals lately are on the 55 gr ammo and the 1:9 twist rate is good for that and 62 gr.

My question again in such thread, is SW M&P has cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel?
Coz Norinco has it.cheers

I have had several Norincos most were fine, one had a bad bolt. Sent it back to EPPs who sent it back to the importer who kept it for months then shipped it back to me with the bad bolt. I ended up buying a new bolt head from brownells and the gun worked fine.

If I were considering the two I would only buy from Canada Ammo or Marstar companies that stand behind the product that they sell, because the warranty from the importer is worthless. I have had warranty issues twice with Smith and Wesson Products and they were both resolved by their warranty guy MD Charlton here in Canada.
 
With the M&P 2's there's no longer a reason to buy Norinco. With the smith, you'll have an in spec rifle in which you can eventually build off of, whereas the Norinco is notorious for being "close to spec" in which case there's often some hand fitting of parts, I know this from first hand experience.

I can't honestly confirm if the smith had a cold hammer forged barrel, but to be honest that's hardly a reason to buy a Norinco. Unless you're really planning on shooting 1k rounds in a range session often you'll never notice the difference. Don't get caught up in all the folk lore around certain "must haves", my faxon barrel isn't CHF and it's proving to be one of my favorites, comparing that to my DD and BCM barrels.
 
I own two Norcs,,, if the M&P had been available at the price they are today I would own no Norcs, don't get me wrong, I enjoy my Norcs, but the S&W is a far better deal at today's prices.
 
I seen the m&p go for $619 on 2 sites , hard to beat cept maybe the bushmaster xm15 that ended up even cheaper with mail in rebate
