S&W Model 69 .44 Magnum. Hickok45 Review.

I'd like to try one mostly because the smaller frame would fit my hand better then the N frame guns. I think it's a carry a lot - shoot a little type of gun, particularly with my 325 gr. hand loads, but that shouldn't be all bad. A comment on the grips though, IMHO, a hard grip is less punishing to the hand than a soft grip on a hard bucking handgun. It seems to me that the compression of a soft grip material allows the gun to hit harder. I found the factory SRH grips particularly obnoxious in this respect, compared to the solid wood grips on the Redhawks.

I have to agree with you on the grips. I've always liked a nice fitting set of wood grips better than any rubber ones. It's like the rubber gives the recoil a running start in to your hand. My 454 Casull had a beautiful set of completely smooth wood grips and it was a nice shooting gun.

^This. I believe the fit of the grip is more important than the material. I have hardwood Hogue's on my revolvers because they fit my hand like a glove with no modifications. I can shoot .44 mag in comfort (aside from the punishing blow to the wallet lol:)). My 629 came with rubber Hogue's and it didn't fit me as nicely and therefore pounded the hand a bit...I believe it to be a fit issue rather than material.

I had a nice fitting pair of Hogue checkered wood grips and with my 629 they hurt like hell. I have always found the rubber hogues easier to shoot.

Handle this revolver at ShotShow2014, and it's a great compact 44 mag carry gun. Not a gun for you to shoot magnum loads out of every week at the range. The grips fit my small hands very well. The down fall, is its not built like a pinned an recesses pre 1982 Smith, so don't expect workmanship, fit and finish to compare to a Classic pre 82 revolver!!!
I collect an shoot pre 82 Smiths and look down on most of the NIM part guns, but I may buy this 5 shot sleeved barrel, NIM part revolver as it felt so good and would pack well in a concealed holster :)
Dale Z!

wow do I agree with you I tell my wife Hickok45 said it is a great gun He is the best I wish I could shoot like him. I don't think my wife likes him LOL
He's been the cause of more than a few of my purchases….I'm not watching this one:)

I like my 629

Received my Model 69 today.

3rd times the charm! I finally own a S&W that looks like it wasn't a refurb or made on a Friday after work. Thank you IRG!

I'll post pics later... but it looks great!
Fantastic piece.

(BTW I agree with everyone on the grips... garbage. But I'll replace them with VZ grips once they put out their smooth grips (no finger grooves - which they are currently working on.))

Perhaps not perfect, but based on my past S&W experiences this is as good as it gets.
I'm very happy with the condition it arrived. I love the weight and feel (very light). I hope it isn't too punishing... I'm very much looking forward to shooting it.

Finally a S&W revolver I can feel good about. EnjoY~

Ahhhhhh. That rig would be just perfect for the fella that likes to fly fish on streams frequented by bears. Stoke it up with the hottest rounds you can - and you've got nothing to worry about! Load it down with some patty-cake target loads and you have a Saturday afternoon well wasted. How about a G37 range report? I want to see how it shoots!

P&D has one in stock for those interested.
