S&W Sight Help

I have used the S&W white outline leaf and smudge the foresight(usually Partridge) on most all the the target handguns I've owned. I found it worked great! I can't see white being effective on the foresight against white paper.

Without knowing your eyesight problems, here's my experience;
My distance vision is still OK - no prescription glasses required.
I do need reading glasses though -- presently a 2.5 reader.
Recently tried pistol shooting W/ iron sights like I used to do in my 30's (30 years ago) - couldn't see my sights. Tried my 2.5 readers - nope.
Had an eye exam, talked to the optometrest (SP)- she suggested a lower power "reader", which by nature, would have a longer focal length. Tried a 1.5 reader -- now I can see the sights clearly again.

I have a similar situation. I can see distance OK but need reading glasses (I wear progressives to work on the computer and read 2-1.5x). If i tried to wear those glasses at the range, I wouldnt be able to see the target! The other issue would be that when I shoot handguns, I use my left eye but when I shoot my AR, I use my right eye as it just feels wrong holding left handed and I am already not that good with it shooting it right handed so switching to left handed would KILL my game. It has been suggested I look into some kind of "shooters progressive lens" so I can see the far sight and the target.
My wife picked up some white and neon green nail polish so I gave that a try tonight. I managed to get some on the sights, some on my pants and some on the floor. Dam that stuff stinks!

Sounds like you paint like I do! ;)

I wear 1.75 readers but have very good distance vision, On the advice of someone here I recently tried shooting wearing low power 1.00 readers. They worked quite well. I found the sights much clearer but I still had a decent view of the target. A compromise certainly but the best solution I've found so far other than a red dot.. You can buy safety glasses with the full lense in this power on Amazon if you search a bit and they also have full lense 1.00 sunglasses.

I have it on good authority that Santa is putting a couple of pairs of each in my stocking,:d

Yes ;
I just bought 4 pairs of ELVEX - full lens safety glasses @ RX 1.5 -- "Ballistic rated" too (Amazon). Going to the range today to try them out.
Had been using just plain readers with a rather small lens and no "Ballistic rating" = not the best.

A little off the original topic, but since we're talking about glasses, I have a slightly complex prescription that precludes the use of typical curved "ballistic" glasses (Wiley, Smith Optics etc.). I just use my regular glasses on the range but what I'd like is a pair of comfortable (ie non-clunky) over-glasses with side protectors. Haven't been able to find anything so far.

Sorry, still not getting it. Why the white first followed by colour over top? Why not just put the colour straight on the sight? Is the white a different type of paint that adheres better?....acts as a primer?

If the fluorescent paint does not have white enamel under it, the red will not pop. It looks blah.

I also went the paint route. Base coat white then yellow for me. Not quite as bright as the green F/O I have on another pistol but looks good. The green F/O looks brighter to me than red. YMMV.
