SAA Custom Work

Last year I bought a new production Colt Model 1873 SAA from a supplier in New Brunswick. It is labelled by Colt as a P1850, which means it is a color case hardened, 45 LC, 5.5 inch barreled SAA. It's a beautiful gun however I can't get over the cheap looking plastic grips they've always come standard with. I would like to go with sanbar stag or ivory grips but I have yet to find a Canadian that can do the work. If I use a yank to custom fit the grip I have to disassemble the grip frame from the pistol to mail it accross the border (which I don't want to do for valuation reasons). Anybody have experience with good quality stag or ivory SAA grips?

Elephany ivory will be an expensive nuisance. Not being grips. Getting it into the country. Very, very expensive. $685US. http://www.eaglegrips.com/guns/
However, there are SAA grips, non-elephant ivory and otherwise that don't require fitting.
I seem to recall seeing a Canadian guy selling walrus(mammoth, et al) ivory grips. Naturally, I forget where I saw them. Try these guys. If nothing else, they might be able to point you to a grip maker. They won't be cheap.

Stag grips won't be as big a deal. This guy makes elk stag grips. Sambar grips shouldn't be much trouble either. Very expensive. $350US.
