Sacrilege to scope a Marlin? pics

Unzip your pants, reach in, and yank on your sack like it you are tearing off a paper towel. That's what should happen to people that scope levers. :D
 
My eyes simply aren't as good as they used to be[as my then 6 year old son once told me when I missed a nice buck]so I prefer a low powered scope-ether 2x-7x variable Leopold, 2 1/2 x, or 4 x.As for low light-I'm intrigued by the bushnell ''firefly'' scope but haven't tried one.I'm thinking a Marlin 444 topped with a low powered scope would be a pretty functional choice for bear and moose

That reminds me of thinking about sticking my finger in an electrical socket to see would happen. I've thought of it many times when I was young and foolish, and luckily didn't try it.

However, I own; I think its 5 Marlins now and I did scope the one that you see. (With a quick detach). My sack feels fine. Not sure about the newer Marlin wearing that scope though. :D :D :eek:

This topic is too much fun. I see the pro scope guys are holding their ground and not getting too excited. Some of the traditionalists however are getting their panties in quite a bunch over this.

Hmm. I wonder how one of those 4X45X50 tactical scopes from Marstar would look on my 1894 in 44 mag :rolleyes:
 
My .444 wears a 1.75- 5 power scope but it is also the rifle I grab when I get serious and quit screwin around with my Grandfathers .303 or my muzzle loader ect . for my eyes anyway a scope really helps in low light conditions.

Clearly I like the look of the 45-70 better. But the scope sure extends the range of my 375 with out uglifying it too bad. I've been chatting with win 94 and others about how to sight these things recently. Thought these pics might help. Or maybe just confuse the issue more I don't know.:rolleyes:

Don't let the old ladies here rag on you over that. The only thing I see wrong is that its a crummy scope, in crummy rings. But hey, it isn't the 6,5X20X44 I put on one, so your doing pretty good. Mind you a lever looks alot better with some huge honking glass on it. In all honesty, get a bigger 4X if you can, a 44mm or similar (Nikon comes to mind)

As for aperature sights.....yaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnnn. How very 1924.
Get with the times. A perfect choice would be a holosite, or one of the 1,5 or 4 powered tactical oriented scopes, for short range close in shooting. The only kind of scopes I never got a chance to put on a Lever.

The only final caveat, is get better rings and the best base you can. I used to throw up at 1) Anything by Savage 2) Remington 700s and 3) People putting lame-azz 20$ mounts and rings on Levers. Not to mention then putting Tascos on them. How I used to cry at night :(

I own both....I have an 1895 Marlin in 45-70 with a Burris Fullfield II 1.75-5x20 on it and swear by it's MOA shooting out to 200M.....but I also use my 1894 Marlin in 357 Mag for deer and it sports a Williams Receiver sight.....not to be used past 100M though.........

Good advice from the guy that is ACTIVELY looking for a used Remington Semi-auto rifle in .308 so he can give it the "Tactical" treatment.

Another time, another place, and that could be foreplay.....:p

My problem with Irons (any irons) is I just can't see them that well anymore. Haven't tried the tritium version from XS yet, might go back if it works out.

I find the best compromise for athetics (and other reasons) is QR rings. Easier to transport, to clean, to store and display. If a younger shootet wants to try, scope comes off, irons are there and good to go.
 
I have a Marlin 336A 30-30 [24" barrel] and I shot it for years with aperture sights, but lately, that has been a super challenge because these 60 year old eyes don't care for the irons much. So I mounted a 3x scope on it...wow! This rifle is really quite accurate, will group 5 150 FP Normas chased by 32 gr of IMR 3031 into just 1". Never could make it shoot quite that well with the aperture sights. Guess the scope is gonna stay on it, aesthetically pleasing or not! Regards, Eagleye.

I don't own one but I have used one a little bit. In October I got shoot Popurhedoff's AR-15 with a Holosight on it. Personally I thought it was nothing short of awesome. I'd never shot the rifle before but I was still very fast and very accurate. The Holo is everybit as good as the hype. If there is any downside at all it is that it doesn't have any light gathering ability like a conventional scope. To me, the advantages all outweigh that one shortcoming. If I owned a .444 it would very likely have a Holo mounted on it, especially with the way the prices on them have come down so much.
