Sacrilege to scope a Marlin? pics

I have a scoped 444. I can maintain a 6" group out to 200 yards with a scope. Lucky to keep 6" at 100yd with factory sights. The other big advantage is that a scope forces you to keep both hands on the gun alot more often than not. I still have no problem carrying a scoped gun in a one handed trail carry.

Holosight on a lever gun ? I think I'll try that as soon as Marlin comes out with their 's.s./syn' model. Can't wait to buy one and paint it up in Cadpat, and hang a laser on the mag tiube.

But until then its iron sights all the way.

there is a special place reserved in hell for people like you :D

Scope or not

Seems to me that the issue isn't looks or range, its the carry. If you are going to treesit or sit a watch then scopes are better. If you are bushwackin' fot hours then scopes suck. Sure peep sights cant shoot for miles, but a rifle slung on a shoulder doesn't shoot at all. I use both a peep sighted lever for dogging, and a scoped bolt for situations with less movement, at least with regard to moose and deer.
"Any excuse to have another gun"

I've had a few scopes on lever guns over the years, and currently have a red dot on a guide gun, and a 2.5X pistol scope on another Winchester in 30-30.
Anyone with open sights wanna race??? :)
I admit there are a place for scopes and in most cases a lever gun isnt the place.
I made that mistake with the guide gun at first by putting a 3-9 scopechief on it. though it made it easier for my dad to shoot out to 200 yards with the gun, it still didnt fit the purpose of the gun.
Its not a LR rifle, so why bother. So it now wears a red dot, and other than putting a scout scope on it, I wouldnt have that gun any other way.
My 30-30 with the scout scope on it is faster than any open sighted rifle I've ever shouldered in my life. For anyone who hasnt tried on, your missing out.
They're a dream in the bush, and really extend your range with the old dirty thirty. especially when you put a half decent scope on it.
I also have my 356 Win Model 94.
It came with a 1.75-5 scope and mounts on it, and that was just plain wrong IMHO. The first thing I did was order from TSE an AO ghost ring, and front post site. (Now XS sights)
Its good for a 3.5 inch group @ 100 yards (which I think is more me than the gun)and thats fine with me ;). Call me weird, but I think a Savage 99 needs a scope on it to make em look right. but hey, thats just me.

BLRs don't count.
Scoping them is almost an improvement to thier looks.
Don't get me wrong, fine rifle, but they are lacking in appearance IMO.

I agree 100%. Any lever with a mag seems to look better with a scope.

Kinda suprised knowbody sudjested wild west guns peepsight! Got one on my guide gun. But I had a scope on it for a while working up loads. Would like to put one (WWgun peep) on my 458. Another 45/70 project enfeild might get a 2.5 weaver. Every dog has its day!!

Love my two Marlins - one a "sinner":) and one not!

No offset hammer spur needed with this little 2.5X Simmons with about 6" eye relief! Only had to cut another ring groove in the weaver base to allow the rear ring to be mounted forward.

Lyman peep on a short trapper Marlin - great "knock about" doggin gun.

Re:Scopes on Marlins
Madtrapper 143 has got it right. This is not about sights this is about the carry of these guns. Marlins (and those old out of production Winchesters) have superb carrying ability but only when NOT scoped. If you do real bush flogging you know how valuable the one handed carry is. If you don't know what I'm talking about you probably sit in a tree.
