I am putting a scope on my Mossberg 500, which is a gun I use for trap, as well as have bagged squirrel, rabbit, deer, grouse, pheasant, duck, and turkey with. It is my "everything" gun. I will only have the scope on it for maybe 3-4 weeks each year, as my main deer and backup moose gun. Would I be better off drilling and tapping it for a Weaver base, or using a saddle mount? The Weaver base seems like the best idea, but I am afraid installing and removing it each year might lead to wear in the threads. Or is that a stupid thought? As for saddle mounts, any opinions on good or bad or what brand or other works best would be appreciated. Thanks.
