Sage EBRs in canada.....I think.

Big Delay in shipment

I got the word that Sage has received expanded orders from the US Army and Navy (?!). Apparently the increased orders are approaching 10 000 extra units.

There are no EBR shipments, LE or civilian, going out anywhere until next year at the earliest :(

good thing, you'll be able to save your money

Think about why you are building an M14, and what are you building it for...............The Sage is heavy, and nose heavy at that.........Yes it does look cool, but do you want to pack all that weight around???

I had the 2nd or 3rd Sage Chassis in Canada a few years ago........Built up a DMR Clone complete with Smith CrazyHorse barrel (again 1 of 3 in Canada) and all TRW parts. Cool looking gun......shot great........heavy like a boat anchor.

I used it in service rifle competitions, and even did the 500m to 100m rundowns with it wearing full kit.

Also shot an DMR clone in the same competitions......

In the end I went back to basics, and built a lighter, shorter M14 that was way easier to handle.....18.75" barrel, USGI Fiberglass stock, drilled Iron sights...........easy to carry around and easy to store.......and shot very well.....

Plan your build.........if you are buying stuff because of the LCF (Look Cool Factor )alone, then you will probably end up disappointed.....

At bet at the end of the day when the Sages do arrive, they will be in the $1200.00 to $1300.00 price range......

SKBY.

Mr Skullboy
and Mr Hungry
and Mr LAZ,
all have BTDT with the M14 rifles,
and we all seem to be saying similar things. ...

" KISS ....
think first,
spend money for lots of practice ammo,
SHOOT THE DAMN THING FOR GAWD'S SAKE,
then think again."

and only then,
spend money on LCF.

BUT,
judging from the Wetcoast M14 seminars ...
YOU WON'T LISTEN!

Last time around at one of these seminars,
I asked who had actually shot their 14s before coming to the seminar. The majority [ and it was a BIG majority ] had not even shot their 14s at all yet, and were already planning to spend $$$ [ sometimes BIG $$$ ] to tart them up with LCF, BEFORE even shooting them.

LCF is for sissies with lots of money and no brains ...
and if you qualify,
I have an AKM Camo Chop mod stock with your name on it.

IMHO,
the AKM CHOP MOD SHORTY balances better than the TROY or the SAGE ...
BUT IT STILL AIN'T A CQB WINNER!

YOU CAN TAKE A CLYDESDALE TO THE RACETRACK,
YOU CAN PUT HIM ON A DIET,
BUT HE STILL WILL NOT BE A THOUROUGHBRED!
but of course,
YPMMV!

Like Skullboy says,
plan your build ...

If anyone was to peek into my "war bag", what he would find is a shorty Norc M14, with iron sights, a Dlask 3 port compensator, in a USGI fiberglass stock, with my side folder modification.
BTDT with the JAE, the Macmillan Hbar M1A Supermatch, the AKM, the AKM Chopmod....
and in the end,
the KISS shorty M14 with a side folder is still my favorite.
At least until something better comes along.

Yes......Yes, I Do......will be around more often now........someone has to make sure you M14 guys keep a grip on reality!!!!!!;)

Lies put forth by a false Skullboy. The real Skullboy died in the jungles of south america years ago hunting rhinos.

:D

Welcome back.

Welcome back Skullboy!

The Sage is heavy, and nose heavy at that......... Cool looking gun......shot great........heavy like a boat anchor.

It doesn't have to be heavy.... I have one that weighs just under 10 lbs.........
M14s in USGI wood or synthetic weigh about the same...... I prefer a pistol grip.

I prefer the NAVY SEAL Mod 1........ M14ALCS/CV SAGE EBR stock.

Visit The History and Development of the SAGE Enhanced Battle Rifle (EBR) chassis stock system for additional information.

Heh, I'm so guilty of this it's not even funny. Hell, I'm guilty on 2 counts.

I'm having the time of my life playing with the kit and getting fantastic advice from the oldschoolers to make it sing better all the time. I've had immense fun planning, sourcing, building and learning about the M14 platform.

My first build opened the door with spare parts for build #2 since I had to live true to the "Get 2, not 1" advice:

dsynk_sage.jpg

It's no chopped AKM, but it is a rare (1 of 11 or 12 ever released to the public) Sage Navy Seal Mod 1, Gen 1. (Sorry Olds, I could not pass this one up, I really tried to listen :()

LCF, KISS, USGI proper or bare bone stock, it's not the dress on the girl that matters, but the girl in the dress.

Enjoy the kit and have fun lads.

Can you remember what the chassis + buttstock + grip weighed on your Sage?

The Mod 1, Gen 1 weighs 4.2lbs for the chassis, CTR buttstock, milspec buffer tube & grip combined.

I don't have all the parts to do a complete weigh in yet, but it seems reasonable so far.

Fully intend to use it in SR matches.

I can't remember the weight, but I had the original Sage telescoping stock/cheekrest on mine.........but a lot heavier then the standard USGI Fiberglass stock......

I had a chance to buy a an original Navy Contract "Chop Mod" stock not too long after, but passed on it...........

Also found out that installing that Smith CrazyHorse barrel in the Sage required some machining to make the handguard fit properly. Only a certain Med. Weight Match barrel would fit without Mods........So some may run into trouble if using anything but a standard weight barrel.......

Thanks Skullboy.

Regarding the barrel issue, this was definitely the case on the previous Sage stocks.

It seems that all new issue Sage stocks have this resolved up to medium/DMR weight barrels, but still uncertain about heavy barrels though.

There's several informative posts on the new issue Sage stocks on Snipershide.

See below:

To my knowledge, all current Sage EBR stocks are now coming with the top rail that will accomodate the medium heavy (DMR) weight barrels. This can be identified with the upper rail having five screws rather then the six that were used on earlier versions. The stock chassis itself still has the sixth threaded hole, only the upper rail has been modified by eliminating the middle sixth screw on the left sight which allows more room for the heavier barrel.
