Anyone have any problems or heard of anyone having problems with the Sako 75 Stainless barrels blowing up?
I guess there was a recall on them from the company.

Yes, over 5 years ago, and they were all re-called in that serial # block, including the beloved Tikka's that were also affected...Now you can sleep better tonight...:)

A limited number of recently delivered Sako and Tikka stainless steel rifles have been recalled due to a problem discovered in the steel used in the barrels. The lowest serial number affected by this recall is 419140 and the highest serial number affected is 461951; however, only a small percentage of rifles within this range of numbers is being recalled. In addition, no rifle shipped before February 2004 is involved in the recall. Because only a limited number of recently shipped rifles are involved in the recall, customers being asked to return their rifle are being contacted directly. Although the recall is nearly complete (99% of rifles affected by the recall in the U.S. have already been returned or are in the process of being returned), if you have a stainless steel Sako or Tikka rifle within the serial number range listed above, received by you after February 28, 2004, and you want to check and determine whether it is being recalled, please call 1-800-503-8869. If you have received a written or telephonic recall notice, please follow the instructions for returning the recalled product contained in that notice.

If i remember correctly 5 people were injured, 3 in Scandinavia, 2 in the USA, of course the company wanted to keep it under wraps.

Almost blow his hand off, 4-5 hours surgery to reconnect it.
This, this is serious quality control let down. I never heard about this problem before. Apparently Sako, Tikka are going in footsteps of Remington or Dodo if you like. I wouldn't mind to buy older models of rifles of those companies but latest staff apparently is pure junk. Did anyone noticed how overall thinn are those receivers particulary over treads? Receivers AND barrels peeling like banana in my opinion are result of to hard metals not because impurities in them.

A low point for the company that's for sure. I've seen the photos of that 30/06 that came apart & I feel for the guy who pulled the trigger. I hope Sako paid dearly for that one. There is no excuse for sub-standard materials when you're deal with the pressures a rifle creates.

Does anyone know if this was the fault of the steel supplier passing off cheap steel as good steel to Sako? Or did the company actually knowingly use a sub-par steel & got caught?

I've never heard which way was the cause of the failures. :(

Link regarding Recalls

... And general technical firearms specs.

http://firearmsid.com/Recalls/Firearm Recall Index.htm a forensic web site. They are somewhat related to the AFTE (ww w.afte.org - The Association of Firearms and Tool Mark Examiners).

There's not much to worry about the recalled Sako rifles, there were only very few wich did not make it back to Sako.

If that means a bad note to Sako, then what to think of Remington and S&W?... mass production is always subject to defaults.

Sako wasn't able to narrow the serial number range down nearly as much as they would have liked, so there was a massive block where they couldn't be sure what steel was in which guns. That made the recall even more expensive and painful, like it wasn't bad enough already. They've got a different record keeping now, at least that's what a little birdy told me, back when it was still news.
