Sako 85 discontinued

I haven't seen any evidence that Sako is phasing out the 85 at this time. Nor have I found a single reference to Sako models "90" and "100." Sako rifles still appear on dealers' shelves, and Stoeger Canada has indicated that they are receiving all the 85s they order. A couple of factors are at work here: (a) Sako's biggest sporting-rifle product these days is the lower-priced Tikka line, so that we'll see more Tikkas than Sakos, and (b) Sako has a new large military contract for the M23 that will undoubtedly be very profitable for the company. These developments, along with promoting the S20 line, have occupied Sako's attention and have meant fewer 85s in the pipeline. Of course, at some point, the 85 will be phased out, just as the L- and A-series Sakos and the 75s were, but I haven't seen any evidence that that point is now, although it's possible I've just missed it.

As for the ejection problems, I can only say that I haven't experienced these with my 85 in .270 Win. It ejects fine, and I have a low-mounted scope.

If there is some information about Sako "90" and "100" models, I'd be very interested in seeing it.

This info was from the sako Facebook group and was confirmed by my sako dealer

My sako has Opti-lok lows with 44mm scope.

22 250 so short action. I've shot 2,3,4,5 even 6 shots off quick in a hunting situation a bunch of times and never had a problem.

Wonder why some do it and some don't?

I think mine was made in 2005. It's. 22 250 and has side turret directly above the action. Should slow motion video it spitting brass out to see how close it really is.

^^ extractor tolerances and rim thickness of the brass.

Yeah, I hear they are really finicky when using '06 brass to make 6.5x55mm due to the x55mm being an oddball rim size. I've only seen it once with a .338 that would drop the cartridge case back into the action unless you work it hard all the time or cycle it in *just the right way*.

That said, it's the only one I've seen with that problem, but it is the same issue others are complaining about.

That's a pretty gun, right there!

Initially i was looking to purchase a Remington BDL. The gunsmith and gunshop owner asked me if I ever heard of Sako from Finland. I said no... He showed them both to me and said in his opinion the Sako AV is a better rifle then the Remington BDL. So I spent a few extra dollars and bought the Sako AV. So far I haven't wore it out, nor has it lost it's accuracy. So the newer Sakos like the 75 and 85 never turned my crank enough to buy one.
The Tikka rifles are decent rifles and I've only owned one. For the right price I'd seriously consider getting another one.

I must have been lucky with my 85 Finnlite in 300win mag. 7 years of hard hunting with it and zero problems!

Me as well just completed 7 years in Sako 85 finnlight 300wn shot my bear last spring 563 yards went 30 yards been a pleasure to shoot zero problems, I think for some if they didn't have bad luck they would have no luck at all feel sorry for them!

I own several 85s. All of them are amazingly accurate with almost any shelf ammo and I have no issues with the ejection problems that appear throughout the forum. I have turned several of my hunting buddies onto the 85s and they have the same experience as me, great accuracy and no ejection problems.

Just looked at the scope cap on my 85. You can see the ding marks. I can see brass stuck in the dings hhah

I do pick my brass after shooting and they aren't far, usually right beside me so maybe it is hitting it a lot of the time. I must eject them so hard they don't land back in the action.

What I have gathered so far is that from about 50 posts only three people have claimed first hand issues with their Sakos.
Majority are fine with their rifles including me and I have 4 of them.
If I wanted a Fierce I would have bought one but that's not what this tread is about.
This tread is about Sakos with extraction issues and from what I gathered it's a very small percentage of Sako owners.
There's more people talking about this issue that never owned or handled a Sako in their life than Sako owners with the real issues.

I’m 50/50 with my small sample size of two. One flawless and one couldn’t eject its way out of a wet paper bag.
